Picked this up on another board. Maybe this country needs a Mt. Moron, with Robertson's face in a prominent position....
US State Department protests televangelist's nuclear threat Thu Oct 9, 3:21 PM ET
WASHINGTON (AFP) - The US State Department has lodged a vehement complaint with prominent conservative televangelist Pat Robertson for comments suggesting that its Foggy Bottom headquarters should be destroyed with nuclear weapons, officials said.
Spokesman Richard Boucher called the remarks -- which Robertson made last week on his nationally televised "700 Club" program -- "despicable" and a senior department official said a protest had been made "at the highest level."
"I lack sufficient capabilities to express my disdain," Boucher told reporters when asked about Robertson's comments. "I think the very idea, though, is despicable."
The senior official said Robertson had been made aware of Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites)'s extreme outrage at the tone and content of the remarks.
"That's not the way one expresses an opinion in Washington," the official said, adding that Robertson's conduct had been "outrageous."
Robertson, who has been a frequent critic of the State Department, made the offending comments during an interview with a like-minded critic of US diplomacy, columnist Joel Mowbray, who has written a book entitled "Dangerous Diplomacy: How the State Department Threatens American Security."
"I read your book," Robertson said, according to a transcript of the interview posted on his Christian Broadcasting Network's website (www.cbn.com).
"When you get through, you say, 'If I could just get a nuclear device inside Foggy Bottom, I think that's the answer'," he said.
"I mean, you get through this, and you say, 'We've got to blow that thing up.' I mean, is it as bad as you say?" Robertson asked.
Mowbray responded: "It is."
Mowbray's book accuses the State Department of endangering the security of the United States by allegedly cavorting with sponsors of terrorism, negligence or incompetence in the visa issuance process and ignoring the travails of US citizens abroad.

Isn't that a prisonable offense? It seems to me to be threatening (or at least encouraging) a terrorist act against an agency of the U.S. government.
And they're just now realizing that Robertson's behavior is "outrageuos"? I've known that for a long time! |

And all this is a suprise, how? The man's an idiot.
Actually, I like ol' Paddy. I especally like him when he tag-teams with Jerry "The Blatherskite" Falwell, another fugitive bedlamite. Paired up, they have an amusment value approaching Abbot and Costello.
Coming from Pat, this is nothing more than meaningless retoric that he thinks, rightly, will increase donations to his 700 Club. Which is a sad comment on the club's membership.
Pat is rich enough to buy and sell Donald Trump. He is an international huckster, involved in gold and diamond mining in Africa among other financial intrests. All of this shows that he might be crazy, but not stupid. He knows how to tickle the strings.
As an aside, I think he got burned for some 8 mil in a Nigeriaian gold mine deal, when the dictator of that wretched country bugged out at President Peckerhead's urging. I'm not sure -- the story sort'a died -- but if true, then who's pocket(s) is the money's coming out of?
Right! Go to the head of the class and get a gold star stuck to your forehead!
The long and short of it is: Pat's in it for the bread. He prays on the toob for a hurricane to miss VA Beach (it dosen't, rather it wrecks the place) and his flock sucks it up. And the 700 donations roll in, as they do with all of the silliness he spouts.
A criminal prosecution? Ain't gonna happen. He's too well connected politically, and as religious fundelmentalism increases in stature, so will this scoundrei's immunity increase.
Forget a Moron Mountain. We've defaced enough mountains already.

Don't even need to mention 'terrorism', Walt. If I remember correctly, a threat of physical violence across state lines is a Federal offense. Considering Pat's following, any statement which begins "we've got to" should be considered a threat. |

Indeed! The power of suggestion is a mighty sword in the hands of such as he. (gee, that almost sounds poetic, huh?) |
