George W is used to receiving standing ovations when he talks, but in Canberra today he addressed a joint sitting of the house only to be interrupted by the Greens to be told exactly what they think of his foreign policy. Even the leader of the opposition had a go at him about Iraq. Good to watch.

At the end of the speech nearly 1/3 of the house remained seated offering no applause for the leader of the free world.

The look on his face when Senator Bob Brown interjected during his speech was priceless. He looked even more confused than normal. I don't think the emperor is used to being interrupted.

Story available here, video here

That should be "the mis-leader of the free world".

Kudos to the two Senators who stood up to Bush.

All Bush could manage was "I love free speech".

Too bad he stole this from Gore.

Kudos to the Australian people who protested his visit.

Unfortunately, the clue meter is reading zero for this clown. Never before have I heard of a visiting President being heckled by members of a foreign allied government. This should tell him something.

Yeah, "should" is the operative word, here. Is he really as dense as he makes himself out to be? I wonder.

I'm sure this is further proof that I really AM a bleeding heart liberal, but I saw the video clip and I actually felt sorry for Bush. I thought he looked genuinely hurt.

I'm weary of the lack of respect on both sides of the political aisle (and I've been guilty of it myself as a Bush-basher.) It's fine to disagree with Bush's policies, but he's still a human being. I thought what they did was disrespectful and rude, rather than civil disagreement.

I respect the office of the president, even if I don't much respect who currently holds that office. If that makes any sense.

And you know...I think Bush genuinely believes what he believes. I don't think he's evil (although I think his henchmen are). I just think he doesn't GET IT.

I think Hitler believed what he believed, that has nothing to do with anything. George Bush is a criminal. Why does it make him better because he's able to slaughter more people than the average criminal?

Hurt? There are millions of people in Iraq hurt and dead because of U.S. policies over the past 20 years. Why do I care if George Bush feels hurt?

Not as hurt as thousands of GI's and not as dead as another 300 odd. Bush does not feel sorry for anyone who is a not on his self appointed "Mission from God". You are either with us or against us sums up the man perfectly.

What about the lack of respect given to us, the general public who have been lied to and manipulated into thinking this was a just war.

He has single handedly destroyed any respect for the office. Until the moron is gone the majority of the world won't respect it.
