I heard this on our 'all news' radio station this morning. I hope somebody had a video camera.

Police were called to a west-end Toronto church yesterday. Apparently it's the Catholic church's policy to rotate priests every 12 years. Well, what do you do when they replace your very popular priest? Assault the new one of course! The new priest on the block was kicked and punched as he tried to conduct the service.

Aaaah, good old christian love and charity. Makes me feel all warm inside.

O.K., I picked up the Globe and Mail this morning (Canada's self-proclaimed 'national newspaper') and got more info. It actually took place 2 weeks ago. I guess I have to get out more. Anyway, to quote the Globe;

"About 80 members of the congregation of St. Sosa Lee church... were angry because a popular priest had been reassigned to another parish. They staged a protest during communion by a new priest. Shouting parishioners kicked and punched Rev. Se Man Oh as he performed the service.
Monsignor John Murphy, chancellor of the archdiocese, said he saw protestors try to grab the Host* during the communion.
The church took the unprecedented step of closing the church on the grounds of desecration. The locks were changed and 24-hour security guards posted."

*Host. Is that kinda like an emcee? ;^)

It doesn't mention police being called (7:00am, scratchy radio-alarm clock, no coffee in me yet; you know how it is. I remembered things that weren't there). But maybe someone should call FoxTV or the WWF. Could be a new programming idea here!

Who made that up?

Easy. You either go to where your old priest is now OR you protest against the person who made the decision PEACEFULLY.

Try Viacom. They own practically half the stations on American broadcast and cable television.

I've heard of worse. I like Celtic music. On one album I have there is a song called "The Parish of Dunkeld". According to the album jacket, relates an actual event. Apparently the parishioners of Dunkeld got so feed up with the fire and brimstone rantings of their preacher that they finally hanged him. They tossed the bell out of the church, installed a still, and held dance parties every Sunday.

Um... excuse me, but how is that 'worse'?

As I am unsure if you really don't know what the Catholic Host is, I'll answer the question. (You probably do, though.)

The Host is the bread broken for Communion.
