Since sarahbear and I have both spilled the stories of our youthful follies (in the Neo-paganism=cuckoo! thread), I think its only fair to hear yours. We weren't all born critical thinkers.
So, come on now, what's the silliest trip you've ever been into? Let's hear the embarassing details.
(I hope sarahbear returns.)

Dear.Dear.Dear.
There have been so many.
I actually thought that a Prodestant minister would listen to a young man's question on hatred being spewed from the pulpit when the Bible was preaching tolerance.
That I could have a civil dialogue with my Charismatic Christian brother about Wicca. (We don't talk about religion anymore. We've come to a consensus. He thinks I'm going to Hell. I think he's wrapped too tight.)
I thought that I could emotionally satisfy a woman who had three other husbands before me because we were in love.

I once worked right across the hall from Melinda Gates and played my BH Surfers and Zappa albums too loud.

A fellow Butt-Hole Surfers fan!
"Daddy?"
"Yes, son?"
"Wh-wh-wh-what does regret mean?"
"Well son, the funny thing about regret is, it's better to regret something you have done, than to regret something you haven't done. And by the way, if you see your mom this weekend, be sure and tell her: Satan! Satan! Satan!"

I once felt I would, someday, learn everything there is to know.
I am afraid I'm not clever enough to come up with a good signature, eh? |

[quote] We weren't all born critical thinkers. /quote] Sorry to disapoint you but I think some of us are born that way. My mother told me once that when I was 3, she was trying to tell me about god and I said there is no such thing. I don't remember that conversation, ha ha but I do know I've never believed for as long as I can remember. My boy started reading at 3[taught himself] he is now 17 and never did understand how people are so stupid to believe in a made up invisible creature. Nothing I really told him about, that's his own point of view. |

Before I started college, I actually thought that college was the place you went to learn the answers to all those troublesome questions about life, the universe, and everything. Talk about a major let down. On the plus side, I did actually read "The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy" in college so I guess that counts for something.

I do realize most people aren't like this but I had no expectations. For one thing I quit high school. I didn't even know what a SAT test was until this year when my son was preparing for the tests in his years of high school. I thought of college or any classroom as a place to gather knowledge and add it to an ever growing body of information that never stops expanding. Something to be said for 'Ignorance is Bliss.' LOL
