Updates on what?

You titled this folder 'Scientology and dianetics' so I'm not sure what you are asking about.

LOL, can't wait to comment on the idiots who 'practice' that 'religion'.

One update could be that L is with Jimmy (Hoffa) having a fun time on some tropical island somewhere, I guess!!!

The famous "NOTs" may be ordered, courtesy of the Swedish Government.
Some 220 pages of material was submitted to a Swedish court as evidense in a lawsuit, and thus it became a matter of public record.

Hey, I read Hubbard's Mission Earth Decology many years ago. Does that qualify me as an apprentice Scientologist?

(I'm still trying to become a member of the wonderful world of hoo doo claptrap, but I just can't find a way to get that...well, stupid)

Just do a little bit of reading on xenu.net, and a little bit of Googling, and you'll find all sorts of interesting things. Say no more. Wink wink.

I heard Hubbard was dead when he 'wrote' that series. He was 'channeled' by the scientologists. Anyone know if that's true? (I guess he was the 'ghost' writer - LOL! [sorry, couldn't resist])

L. Ron died at the beginning of 1986. Book one of the series was published in 1985, books two through five were published in 1986, and books six through ten in 1987. However, Amazon.com claims that the first book was reissued in 1985. But they're wrong, as the Library of Congress shows 1985 to be the date of the first edition.

Now, given that these books all appear to be more than 350 pages, and that NaNoWriMo presents writing 175 pages in 30 days as a serious challenge (even for crappy writing), it seems more than likely to me that all ten books had been written prior to 1985, and a publishing deal set up to release one every 10 weeks or so.

On the other hand, if someone is claiming that the books were dictated, then the 175-pages-in-30-days thing doesn't really matter. How Hubbard was channeled before his death would be an interesting question, though.

Here's an interesting account of the writing of Mission Earth by the Editor:

http://www.lermanet.com/cos/MissionEarth.htm

If this account is to be believed, I can see why some thought Hubbard was dead. He was apparently in 'hiding' and communicated only by courier. It would be easy to speculate that he was dead. Plus, as indicated in the account, he apparently often used ghost writers...

EDIT:

Here's another article - from the San Diego Union, April 15, 1990, front page article - it discusses the claim of the Mission Earth series and Battlefield Earth becoming best sellers through manipulation of sales by the Church of Scientology. It also makes no mention at all of the rumor that Hubbard was dead when he wrote it. Of greatest interest, it reveals the L. stands for Layfette. No wonder he never used the name.

"The easiast way to make a million dollars is to start a religion." L. Ron Hubbard

Sad, my mom was about to get a job in Clearwater, so I had to set her straight or see her consumed by the church.
