Bush I illegally invaded Iraq by ignoring the U.N. Charter's provisions which state that countries will negotiate with each other. Some of the weapons and tactics used were at least questionable.
Clinton continued the attack by making sure that the infrastructure of Iraq could not be repaired, killing hundreds of thousands of people, not to mention the other problems the sanctions and weekly bombings caused. Clinton then bombed a pharmaceutical company in Sudan, on which thousands depended, including Iraqis already impoverished and injured by war, a brutal dictator, and sanctions. |

Extremely interesting stuff, Gorgo. I would support a foreign policy that forbid the CIA from tampering with governments and stuck to intelligence. This overreaching of the CIA is evil and harmful. It's men playing God.

I totally agree. If people's minds and emotions weren't clouded by 911, I don't think President Bush would have succeeded in his push for war.

Thanks for clearing that up a bit. Very informative.

THE FOREIGN POLICY MATH OF PRESIDENT BUSH...HOW WOULD YOU GRADE HIM? I've been giving our current foreign policy some thought and this is what I've come up with. The Bush administration seems to be engaged in a global push for the spread of American influence. Unfortunately, this push includes a preemptive war policy that allows us to attack any enemy who may harbor terrorists or participate in any terror activities, even though not directly against the U.S. These enemy nations (which may only be the current regime of a nation) are not actively attacking or threatening us at this time. If Bush W. finds a terror cell of say 200 men in one of them, he has ample reason, according to current foreign policy, to threaten this entire country to deal with these terrorists or face invasion. If this country of say, 60 million, refuses to cooperate and hand over the bad guys, Bush proposes to attack 60,000,000 plus 200, making the total of our enemy to defeat, 60,000,200. If the said terrorists flee across the border, we are left to fight a nation of 60,000,000 and not even kill all the 200 terrorists. We get maybe 50 of them. If the nation they flee to is friendly to the terrorists, the scenario begins all over. This new country of 40,000,000 plus the 150 terrorists that are left is our new enemy. Now we have a total of 100,000,150 enemies when we started with just 200 active enemy terrorists. Is my math messed up or does that seem like horrible foreign policy math? We search for 200 terrorists and come up with an additional 100,000,000 enemies. You gotta be really stupid to think this is an improvement in world affairs. Unfortunately, as crazy as this sounds, in my understanding, this is the current administrations actual foreign policy. Remember the "axis of evil" speech? If GW Bush had been president during the cold war and tried out this foreign policy, I think a bunch of us might have been toast. |
