Apparently, we can't even choose to omit "under God" from the pledge. At least, Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Washington) can't.

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2001915366_mcdermott29m.html

Summary: the Republicans' collective panties are in a wad because McDermott didn't say the words "under God" while reciting the pledge. McDermott is a Christian and attends St. Mark's church here in Seattle, but that isn't enough, apparently.

Ugh.

From the same article....

Controversy over the two words erupted last year, when the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the words amounted to a government endorsement of religion. The case is on appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, which heard arguments this year.

Does anybody know when to expect the judgement?

if you have arguements for or against 'under god', see my thread: http://www.skepticfriends.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2769[size=1]

They're talking about June-July timeframe. If they don't wuss out and claim Newdow doesn't have standing.
