Does anyone really believe this study will have any impact on the military's policies? Does it sway the opinions of those that believe gays shouldn't serve in the military? Am I wasting my time by even reading this drivel?

I don't think that it will sway opinions, but it might sway the policies of the military. Men who no longer want to serve in the Iraqi quagmire can now say, "Hey! I'm gay!" and get a one way ticket home. Since the military is facing staffing problems which cause them to implement stop-loss policies, they may move toward 86ing the gay ban.

If the number of people discharged under the rule actually effects the military capability of the country, then it should be looked at seriously. It's a pretty stupid and homophobic rule anyway.

Agreed. Distress over sexual orientation is completely ridiculous. If a man enjoys having sex with another man, that is all for the man, not anything the military should have to sweat over.

Just thought Id point out that the term '86ing' '86ed', is supposed to mean fleeing the police out the back door.

Started at a speakeasy with 86 as the street address, when the cops showed up they opened the secret egress route and 86ed out the back.

Now its taking on a new light meaning to kill or scrap something.

Thanks, BigPapa. I'd always thought it started in that era's blind pigs, to 86 the garbage, which could be either the leftovers or the more obnoxious patrons.
