I was posting at that Bibleland Studios place (we'll see how that goes, so far no one has answered my questions about the Ark...) and I had this idea for a t-shirt:

Front:

"Evolution: wherein the species improves itself through the death of its most stupid members."

And then on the back:

"Your next"

Probably just another one of my bad ideas, but what do you guys think?

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

I like it......

Kinda up there with "I'm with stupid"

I like witty t-shirts.....are they hard to get printed Dave???

Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it's a fatal mistake, which, at least, others can learn from.

What's difficult is making them look nice. The SFN is still on the look-out for a capable graphic artist who's actually got time to do such work.

And I like it too, Ricky, although the nit-picker in me says to change "most stupid" to "least fit," and "Your" to "You're." Sorry.

Ahha, very good Dave, you always find everything that no one else would think about (or maybe its just me?).

Not everything, Ricky. For example, I'm sure there are plenty of evolutionary biologists who'd have issues with "improves itself," but the only alternative I can come up with would require the use of a tiny font just to fit the whole thing on a T-shirt. And it should really be "premature death," or something along those lines, since every creature dies eventually, and evolution is really more about "those who leave the most kids who have kids (who have kids, etc.), win."

Oh, crap, I'm doing it again, aren't I?

Well, it's not just you.

Actually, thinking about it more, the way you wrote the front side is just fine, from a humor point-of-view. A full 99% of the people who read the thing won't know it's "wrong" in the subtle ways in which it is. On the other hand, with that wording, it sort of plays into the creationists' nonsense ideas about evolution (like that "evolution" means "better" in some sort of ideal way, and/or that intelligence is required for reproductive success [see: insects and/or bacteria]), and I'd hate to see that happen. But again, the creationists who'd know enough to glom onto such "flaws" would be few and far-between, as well.

O! the woes of compromise!

Yeah: for snappy and funny, leave the front side as you originally wrote it.

But as the editor here, I can't let the "Your" off so easily.

Next question: did you have any sort of images in mind - something which might be a background, border, or what-have-you for the words, or should we just grab the standard "Balloon," "DomCasual," or "Okay" font and slap 'em on a shirt?

Hmm, how about a picture of a dinosaur skeleton? Seems like that would go well. Something like this:

As for the font, Balloon looks pretty good.

Actually, adding pictures and other stuff makes the job more difficult. I could probably scrounge up enough time this weekend to splat the words into the right format, but getting the art to look right will take much longer for someone such as myself. The products we have available now took @tomic many hours to get "just so."

But I'm really happy with both my SFN clock and SFN T-shirt. [/shameless plug]
