We should strive to get as close to government by the people for the people as possible without mob rule. This is a complex equation, of course, and the method of electing representatives is only part of it. But it's a part, IMO, that is broken in the US. The system virtually guarantees only 2 major parties at most can survive and it is flawed - innovation and dissent is stifled.
