Well, that all depends, how many people actually follow these nuts?

I like to watch Pat pray. His face seems to sort of scrooch up and he looks like he's suddenly realized that his piles are bleeding.
These holy grifters do indeed have large followings and they seem to become more hydrophobic with each, passing year. The big names in the racket, like Jerry, Pat and Frankie (Ike, Mike and Mustard?) today have incomes that no longer depend so much upon picking the pockets of the congregetion, but pretty extensive business intrests. Tax free, business intrests.
They also tend to be canniblistic scavengers. When Jim Bakker's money machine got busted by the feds, Falwell, Swaggert and some others that I don't recall, quickly pounced upon the carcass. As I recall, Falwell (who did not screw his mother in an outhouse as Larry Flint wrote, although I'd not be suprised) was filled with righteous sincerity when he finally scarfed up the PTL and finished running it into the ground.
And we've all read about Robertson's gold and diamond mines, and his distress when Charles Taylor, with whom he had an 8-mil deal, left office. I can't be sure, but I think Paddy got burned on that one. Or at least, his congregation did.
I don't know much about Graham the Younger. He seems to be pretty much low-key, relitivly. Does anyone know how his evangelical project in Iraq is doing?
I can guess; it ain't happening and he's probably wishing he'd never thought of it. Or at least kept his mouth shut when he did.
But the faithful followers of these and many others keep their blind eye fixed upon the various pulpets and their deaf ears to The Message, and offer support with their cash -- tax deductable.
But I wonder; while they are something of a political power at the moment, will that last? Are their numbers really increasing? Or are they beginning to stagnate a bit?
Watching these sacred scoundrels shuck is more fun than a trip to the zoo.

Robertson lost money on that deal. Also turns out that Bin Laden's people were laundering money in Liberia by purchasing diamonds through Taylor, so in a sense, Robertson was financing Al Qaeda. Maybe that's why he's not been invited to speak at the RNC.

The thought occured, of course, and that was the way I originally wrote it. There was really no need to be obscure, but 'hydrophobic' sorta seemed a little better for some reason.
It's gotten a good enough reaction, I might use it, or something similiar, again sometime.

Just one of many polarizing comments I'm sure you are all well aware of. I see Falwell as the equivalent of Rush Limbaugh with a religious bent. I know lots of young Republicans who agree in theory with much of what Rush says, but think his delivery is too extreme. But, yeah, here in Bush Country there are plenty of evangelicals and fundamentalists who agree with what they say.
There aren't many recent articles about Graham's Iraq evangelism--one article from March sums up some of the problems:
