I'm torn on the whole issue of 527's and soft money....
On one hand I despise them all. They seem to exist only so that candidates can claim they don't run attack adds and negative campaigns. They let the 527's do it for them.
On the other hand, some things would not be learned about candidates. Isn't it worth a few dirty ads if you eventually learn something you wouldn't have otherwise known about the candidates?
But, as the article I linked to above points out, can these organization be expected to present anything that resembles truth?
I dunno.... |

Isn't this what a free press is for?

The free press has had their heads so far up their collective asses since 9/11 that they are no longer capable of even asking hard questions. |

I have a hard time remembering what I ate for breakfast last week. D'you 'spose it's possible that some of these Swift Boat Veterans might not remember every detail of every moment in Vietnam? Even allowing for the idea that emotional memories are implanted more strongly (er deeply, you know)...it was 30 years ago, for heaven's sake.
And worse, they call themselves Swift Boat Veterans for Truth! I hate that "Truth" thing.

If we could educate the public how not to be misled we wouldn't have to worry about this kind of manipulation. I'm sure the Republicans know full well the ad will stick with a few people despite it being so dishonest. |

A bit like creationist tactics, the top names and organizations tries to avoid being caught with obvious falsehoods in front of the scientific semi-literate. The grassroots workers are just lying their asses of to snare the ignorant. |

After Bush finished protecting Texas from an enemy invasion, you didn't see him protesting Vietnam. Of course he was spending most of his time drinking and snorting coke, but still he didn't protest!!
Actually, maybe he still is drinking: quote: "As you know, we don't have relationships with Iran. I mean, that's — ever since the late '70s, we have no contacts with them, and we've totally sanctioned them. In other words, there's no sanctions — you can't — we're out of sanctions." —George W. Bush, Annandale, Va, Aug. 9, 2004

Frankly I don't even give a sh#$ what happend to Kerry over there. All I need to know is that Kerry WENT, while Bush did not. |

Welp, hadn't said much of late about the upcoming election,(bows to loud applause), sorry to have to say though, this latest trail baloon by the jeep drivers for misdirection, has moved me to change that. The Re-hypocricticals have almost as long a record of impinging the heroic acts of our toops in war, as they have of avoiding any chance of such service themselves. McCain's exceptional shinning example of courage, as well as being one of their own, wasn't even spared the sewage. Now the latest twisted suggestion, "self inflicted wounds." Must we share a country with these people, and me anit ah leaving? Makes me sick, the Re-hypocrictal party is diving to new lows in polictical discourse. U S A #1 How proud they must be...

The ad was not put out by the Republicans and Bush cannot stop this ad unless he wants to supress free speech. There was not this much uproar over some of the MoveOn.org ads that also had falsehoods in them. |

Bush could denounce it, as Kerry did over a certain ad that lied about Bush. |

It is hard to know what the truth is on both sides. I think alot of their beef is that Kerry called them all war criminals when he came home. He even called himself one.http://hnn.us/articles/3552.html |
