There are those who say that Windows is *already* completely useless!!

That is a matter of opinion. I should point out that anyone that allows an Active X component to be installed on their system from an unknown source........practically deserves the consequenses.

There are advantages to using netscape.
Like not having ActiveX support.
Anyway, I have win 98 without a start button.

But no activist would dare rip it out.
As they think it gives them cancer. |

I use Active X on a few web projects and it is an extremely useful tool. No one is required to use it. All they lose is functionality.

ActiveX is just too big a security risk to even be allowed on the net.
I only wish it were banned.

The truth is I usually use it in an intranet environment where people had better damn well install them.
On the internet there are a few good ones as well but if you look closely and check the fine print it's not tough to tell which ones are safe and which are not. But no one should just allow them to install automatically. That's just plain stupid.

I would actually like to know whats so good about ActiveX anyway?
It wont run on linux or macs or any other non win32 platform.
It will only run in IE (users of netscape, opera and mozilla can't use it).
It has terrible security systems (as opposed to Java which doesn't let the applet do anything it likes).
Oh and pretty much anything you can do in ActiveX can be done in Java.
So why use it?

1. Java is as slow as a lame elephant
2. Our company is windows only
3. We require the use of Internet Explorer so that our users can get the richest set of features that work best with the operating system we use. You see if you are using windows, IE and Active X are an excellent choice.

Thanks, @tomic. However, I never *open* anything or punch on any button from a stranger (sometimes, even from some friends). I am not curious enough about the silly e-mails to open any of them. However, it always pays to warn us about these jerks.
