quote: "I don't think a lot of electricity is a good thing. It is the fuel that powers a lot of multi-national imagery," Smith told CNSNews.com.
According to Smith, electricity can wreak havoc on cultures. "I have seen villages in Africa that had vibrant culture and great communities that were disrupted and destroyed by the introduction of electricity," he said.

You're close to one that occurred to me today:
Mechanical refrigeration.
Think what life would be like without a refrigerator. Warm beer! Ugh!
And air conditioning. Modern buildings / skyscrapers would be impossible wothout it. |

To get started, I'll toss one out:
The Insikerator(tm) garbage disposal.
I like to cook, and that means there are scraps, peelings etc to dispose of, and with two kids, there's usually uneaten stuff left on the plates after every meal. A little water, flip a switch, and whoosh, its gone, off to feed the microbes at the local treatment plant. And you don't have a biology experiment in the trash can. Truly a work of inspired genius.
