Welp, this one was a more even match by my view. Both were able to score hits on each other, and neither made any obivious blunders. Think one could call it a draw, but on my card, Edwards inched out the thinest of wins... You..?

Media (even those liberal commies at CNN and MSNBC) people saying that Cheney blasted Edwards. |

By the time Aaron Brown appeared later on CNN, the talking heads were saying Cheney blasted but Edwards emerged unscathed. |

Could have been worse. But o'course, I'd like to have seen Edwards treat Cheney as The Rude Pundit advised. Alas, 'twas not to be.
I thought Edwards a little defensive and my opinion of Cheney as one of politics more acomplished liars was shown to be a misunderestimate.
I give it to Edwards slightly, by a couple of honesty points. But I don't think he was aggressive enough.
Whatever one might think of the slimey rat-bastard, Cheney is impressive. I think Edwards did quite well to hold his own. I further think that this debate was an excellent experience for him.
All in all, I'm satisfied if not estatic.

Here's something interesting: An MSNBC poll currently (4:15 AM) has it at 67 to 33, Edwards.

I'm a little suprised at the spread. This'll be worth looking in on from time to time to see if it remains so.

I thought Cheney won. Cheney is a remarkable politician: he's personable yet his political ideology is mean (he voted against Head Start?!). Cheney can hand you a cookie while kicking you in the shins.
Edwards wasn't afraid to take Cheney on, which I loved. He nailed Cheney a couple of times and had me dancing around my living room with glee.
It was interesting watching the real brains of the presidency: the ruthlessness and shrewdness of Dick Cheney. |

MSNBC is as close to FOX as you can get.
I'm pleased to see an Edwards won vote on their site. |

Guess I'll post my debate note here. Until someone decides which thread to use. And which thread will be for Friday's debate?
Democracy Now had a nice analysis of the debate this AM. Seems like Edwards should have had an earpiece from Kerry to fill him in on the 'evil one's' track record on his Central American exploits during the Reagan years. Seems their web site is down right now but try this link later and you can find the transcript. www.democracynow.org
Edit follow up. Well there is no transcript, but the audio file can be replayed. It's an hour program.
It also repeats this afternoon on their radio outlets. |

From watching the debate, it was pretty evenly matched. Cheney won, but not by much and not without setting out some potential landmines that the MSNBC coverage picked up on pretty quickly.
Minor: Cheney claimed not to have met Edwards before that evening. Edwards appears in a picture taken at the Congressional Prayer breakfast in 2001 close enough to slap the bald spot on his funny lookin head. Edwards also attended a swearing in ceremony for Elizabeth Dole where he met Cheney. (Edwards escorted Elizabeth Dole and her husband to Cheney and she was sworn in using Mrs. Edwards Bible.)
Major: Cheney claimed not to have said that there was a linkage between Hussein and 9/11. Chris Matthews' staff quickly uncovered a 2003 Meet The Press interview where he heavily intimated the connection. Matthews seemed to take great glee in slapping Ben Ginsberg (Bush lawyer and Republican spin monkey) around over the comment. They gave the Democratic spin monkeys what for as well.
Edwards wasted a shot on the gay marriage amendment. Cheney didn't comment because he is on record as opposing the amendment. Darth Cheney declined to blash Bush again. |

It's about 12:30 in N. Cal. and they now have it 59% to 41%, Edwards. |

That sounds a lot more reasonable, although I'd not have scored it even that high. It also sounds like a pretty fast catch-up. I wonder if the poll is being freeped.
I haven't looked at it but the once -- I'll check it again tomorrow. If it shows a big lead for Cheney, I'll strongly suspect Free Republic is again doing their multiple voting routine.

Oh shit, oh dear! Forget my last post! Here's a list of polls on the debate:
http://www.politicalstrategy.org/archives/000483.php
I'm starting to wonder if I was watching some other debate. Damn! Most, Fox et al excluded show Edwards winning it in a massacre.
I wonder if this reflects a general disgust, heretofore unreported, with the current administration (sic). There's no way all of this can be freeped, at least none that I can think of, and I'm pretty shifty.

I watched it at home with my wife showing little or no interest. She thinks my fascination with American politics is a little weird. She just does not want Bush to win, though I could have some influence there!!!
Anyway, after the first 1/2 hour I thought Cheney was marginally in front, and then Edwards came back well.
All in all - a tie. This was a good result for the Dems. Cheney could have destroyed him.
Although the funniest quote of the night was from my wife, she looked up from her book and said “Who is that old bald man with the grumpy face? He really looks quite nasty.”

I guess I read better than I listen, and now, after reading the transcript, I remember a lot of the points that all but blew by me.
The above link, a sort of re-hash of the high points, claims that Edwards gave Cheney a man-beating that went all but unanswered.
Maybe these polls aren't so far out after all.
