From my friend Eliot:
A few things to remember (And to spread around)
1-Bush did not win a mandate. This was not a decisive win. This was a very slim majority. Which means the other 49.5 percent of the people who voted wanted him out of there. Don't swallow the current narrative that this gives him any more justification to act than he had before.
2-Bush doesn't get a fresh start. He got us into the current mess (domestic and international), it's on him to get us out.
3-We're not alone and we are not out of touch with America. We are America. (See #1) Don't buy in to the idea that the 1/2 of the country which feels the way we feel, which treats fellow humans with compassion and tolerance, which believes hope is stronger than fear is any less American than the 1/2 that hates and fears the other. All Americans have the experience of knowing what it's like to be 'The Other." Some people can turn that feeling into empathy, some turn it into the desire to be a part of the herd at any cost.
and
4 - There are a lot of very angry and motivated people who will do whatever can be done to limit the damage of the next four years. Even republicans are afraid of what he might do. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/04309/406471.stm
Talk to your friends, call your family, e-mail, write letters. Make sure we all know that we're not alone and it's not over.

Its little comfort, thanks anyway.
If the only benefit is that we get to rub Repubs faces in the mess they made then it still sucks. |

Specter is an old-school republican, not one of the neocon fundies that pass for republican these days. |

I find hope in your message, Todd. I found hope when the school kids walked out of class to protest Oregon's gay marriage ban initiative. I find my 15 yr old's friends who actually campaigned against Bush hopeful.
Bush's arrogance will be his downfall. The Evangelicals will fade back into the woodwork sooner or later. These religious revivals always have in the past. They will in the future.
Despite its very slow progress, the world brain does make progress. We aren't jailing the Galileos of today. Women do not 'serve' their husbands in most enlightened cultures. Evolution is only showing up in a few backward school districts. There is no reason to think the world will only backslide and never move forward again.
See, I'm not sighing nearly as much today. |

One thing: You guys in the States should take note that the RR people and the Religous Right people down there know that Specer is in their way of theocratic judge appointments.
They're already trying to get rid of him, as I mentioned in another thread here.
This is a quote from a RR post, they've listed a site to petition for Specter's removal. Naturally, all the posters there have signed it: ----------------------------- NOT SPECTER !
You can sign the petition @
http://www.notspecter.com/
--------------------------
Anyone know of any "pro-specter sites? |

As to Arlan Spector, I see a little talk with Carl in total control Rove has given Arlan a new lease on his Republican life. Sort of similar to when John McCain had a bad word or two to say about Bush, then poof, overnight he was a changed man.
Hmmmm, somehow I can't get 'The Body Snatchers' movie out of my head.....or perhaps that would be, The Stepford Boys? |

The whole thing is really not amusing.
The republicans run around and shout at the top of their lungs that 10 of Bush's judicial nominations were blocked in his first four years. They fail to mention that more than 200 of his nominations made it in.
And this thing with Spectre.... they took him to whatever place they took McCaine and reprogrammed him.
