The letter below can be found on the website for Bob Jones University at: http://www.bju.edu/letter as of 11/14/04. I include it below in case it is removed from the site later. You can laugh at this nutcase, and his statements can be shot full of holes by any thinking person (including rational Christians) - but he's also scary. Imaging all the twisted minds BJU is turning out. Yikes!

"Congratulatory letter to President George W. Bush from Dr. Bob Jones III November 3, 2004
President George W. Bush The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC 20500
Dear Mr. President:
The media tells us that you have received the largest number of popular votes of any president in America's history. Congratulations!
In your re-election, God has graciously granted America - though she doesn't deserve it - a reprieve from the agenda of paganism. You have been given a mandate. We the people expect your voice to be like the clear and certain sound of a trumpet. Because you seek the Lord daily, we who know the Lord will follow that kind of voice eagerly.
Don't equivocate. Put your agenda on the front burner and let it boil. You owe the liberals nothing. They despise you because they despise your Christ. Honor the Lord, and He will honor you.
Had your opponent won, I would have still given thanks, because the Bible says I must (I Thessalonians 5:18). It would have been hard, but because the Lord lifts up whom He will and pulls down whom He will, I would have done it. It is easy to rejoice today, because Christ has allowed you to be His servant in this nation for another presidential term. Undoubtedly, you will have opportunity to appoint many conservative judges and exercise forceful leadership with the Congress in passing legislation that is defined by biblical norm regarding the family, sexuality, sanctity of life, religious freedom, freedom of speech, and limited government. You have four years - a brief time only - to leave an imprint for righteousness upon this nation that brings with it the blessings of Almighty God.
Christ said, "If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my father honour" (John 12:26).
The student body, faculty, and staff at Bob Jones University commit ourselves to pray for you - that you would do right and honor the Savior. Pull out all the stops and make a difference. If you have weaklings around you who do not share your biblical values, shed yourself of them. Conservative Americans would love to see one president who doesn't care whether he is liked, but cares infinitely that he does right.
Best wishes.
Sincerely your friend,
Bob Jones III President

PS: A few moments ago I read this letter to the students in Chapel. They applauded loudly their approval.
When I told them that Tom Daschle was no longer the minority leader of the Senate, they cheered again.
On occasion, Christians have not agreed with things you said during your first term. Nonetheless, we could not be more thankful that God has given you four more years to serve Him in the White House, never taking off your Christian faith and laying it aside as a man takes off a jacket, but living, speaking, and making decisions as one who knows the Bible to be eternally true."

Well there are over a thousand letters of apology to the world on the site I posted on my signature line. They seem to counter the above letter quite well. |

Thanks for posting that link. Its also nice to see some pictures from folks in other countries who realize that not all Americans are idiots, that more Americans voted against Bush than any other sitting president and that we're sorry he got elected anyway. |

What the letter fails to take into acount is that the number of people who voted against the fool was also a record. I don't see any mandate in just a couple of points.
Reoccuring thought: Bush is now going to have to produce for his backers, bigtime. Jones, Robertson, Falwell, and the rest of the sanctimonous and gluttonous control freaks have a nasty habit of eating their own when displeased, or even just when the opportunity presents itself.
Remember when Jim Bakker's foibles came to light? Tears of piety and regret as big as horse turds rolled down Falwell's porcine jowls as he grabbed everything in sight and fought angerly with others of the ilk, who were trying to do the same. These creatures were as vicious as the Taliban then, and none of them has shown any sign of mellowing with age. And they have high hopes of vastly expanding their power over the next term.
Bush could well end up with tooth marks on his ass, rather than the sloppy smooch stains he's getting currently. O'course, that would require the Democrats to grow a spine and a set of balls made of something other than wet Kleenex. It would require a love of country above and beyond the love of office.

A boiling agenda? What kind of a crappy metaphor is that? It just makes no damn sense whatsoever. Really, i'd expect better from someone who attended a university. |

If there is a God, maybe He'll save us from these Bible-fondling right wing nut jobs.
My co-worker, Karen, repeats this affirmation to herself every day: "Karen, no one cares what you think. No one cares what you think." It's a good mantra for all of us to have.
Apparently, the wacky fundie Christians think the rest of us are interested in their convulsive, googly-eyed expressions of faith. They're wrong.
Sorry, but this is making me cranky.
I miss my (secular, liberal, free-thinking) country. |

Or God has a sense of irony. A friend told me about this wacky letter on the Bob Jones University website, and while there I also noticed the "school" is staging Edmond Rostand's delightful play "Cyrano de Bergerac" with Bob Jones III in the title role!
I wonder if they realize that the play is based on the life of the real Cyrano, who was a swordsman, poet and member of the Liberines, a group of French free-thinkers who included Molière and the poet Lignière. At their meetings, they often castigated religious zealots and Cyrano earned a reputation as an atheist.
(Given the co-opting nature of the evangelicals, they probably rewrote the play and filled it with Bible quotes.) |

I used to live within walking distance of BJU. You'd never know how beautiful the campus is from the road. From outside looking in it looks like a prison, which seems appropriate to me. The people are about what you'd expect: fresh-faced and closed-minded.
Were I to write a letter of congratulations to the President, it would include this quote:
"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron." H.L. Mencken (1880 - 1956)

Not all Americans are idiots and not all idiots are American. If there are anyone out there that feel that their country has been cheated out of their share of morons, Sweden has a surplus and you are welcome to have some of ours. (Brazil has already got one.) |

Here's a letter from someone who's a little bit more ticked at the election results! |
>From: enuffenuff@fastmail.fm (excerpt follows): > I'm looking to teach these two bastards a lesson they'll never forget. > Personal visit by mates of mine. No violence, just a wee little chat. > > **** has also committed more crimes than you can count with his > incitement of hatred against a religion. That law came in about 2007 > much to ****'s ignorance. That is fact and his writing will become well > know as well as him becoming a publicly known icon of hatred. > > Good luck with that fuckwit. And Reynold, fucking run, and don't stop. > Disappear would be best as it was you who dared to attack me on my > illness knowing nothing of the cause. You disgust me and you are top of > the list boy. Again, no violence. Just regular reminders of who's there > and visits to see you are behaving. Nothing scary in reality. But I'd > still disappear if I was you.
What brought that on? this. Original posting here.
