Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80040e57'

The field is too small to accept the amount of data you attempted to add. Try inserting or pasting less data.

/forum/inc_activeusers.asp, line 171

That's what I keep getting.

OK, shoot. I know what this is. I will need to download the database so I can update the database but can't do that till tomorrow. For now, do not use long topic titles!!!

What is the name of the topic you can't reply to? I can try to shorten it a bit.

You won't believe how happy I am to see this thread is actually Trish reporting a problem.

I saw the title "Can't Reply to Topic" and thought the thread was started by JW crying 'censorship' again!

I still can't change my member profile. I would like to as I have added another year to my life and another day of wisdom. (A month ago anyway.)

Now, I am also having difficulty with SFN in that everytime I try to change screens I have to either refresh and if that doesn't work then I have to hit back and attempt it again. But I keep getting the standard DNS error Server not found. Is it just today?

I'm sorry about that. I have been unable to look into this. I have started to and then run into other problems but will get to that. Seriously. Please be patient. The problem with the profile is probably too much info in one field.

The problems today on SFN are network troubles inf\volving routing at the web host company. It should go away eventually.

I get the same error when I try to read "Time before the big bang". It's the only folder I can't open, so I'm not exactly hypervenhilating, I'm just curious as to why.

The specific cause of that is the "Who's Online" code. It's trying to throw the URL in a field that on;y allows URLs of x length and the URLs are exceeding that length. It was a mistake I know how to fix but have not been able to download the database to make the change. I could do it without downloading but it's always good to back up your data before making a change like that.

I am working on getting the techs to set things correctly so I can do this.

I know you need the time @tomic to make the changes, but could you let us know when they're complete?

Oh, goodie! Now let us hope that the thread in question proves to be as exciting as it seemed to have been when we could not access it at all.

If any of you had sent an e-mail to @tomic (as I did -- pat, pat on back), he would have cordially explained all about this long ago.

Now, I am worried, as usual, that @tomic will be so busy fixing and poking around this site that he will not get his sleepy time.

So, let us not put @tomic into the hospital from exhaustion.

Sp please tell me if everything is fixed!!

I made a few changes and, who knows, I could have made things worse.

Don't laugh. It could happen.

I was getting the Jet Database error on numerous topics for the last couple of weeks, but hitting refresh always brought up the page.

So far so good now...
