The Rapture Ready people are disturbing in their complete and utter lack of even the tiniest trace of skeptical or critical or logical thinking. Their attempts at making excuses for their imaginary god are embarassing as they most of all seem like god is actually blackmailing them - in their own minds. "Believe me, or else," is his message to them, and then they have no choice but to make up excuses for why their imagined god is doing all kinds of bad things with us. "We have to suffer to turn to god," or "This is just another example of God Amazing Power." I go to their board mostly for the freak factor. Then we have a few even more fanatical scum, for example Fred Phelps, who thanks god for this disaster - and he hopes that especially plenty of Swedes will die, since some crazy pastor was imprisoned after making hate speeches. Why do we insist on keeping organised religion? Doesn't it belong in history? Certainly it doesn't belong in a civilised society.

Also, if god is omnipotent and omnipresent and all that, then she clearly either made this happen, or stood idly by letting it happen. Is it really the right thing to do, then, to turn to this god for prayer and worship? Is such a god really worthy of that? Wouldn't such a god be completely beneath us all, unworthy?

Yes Maverick the Hebrew God can be very cruel. . but so can many. But let us clearly define by what you mean when you say God? Do you mean the Christian God or the Hebrew God? There are so many? Whether God caused it, turned his back on it, or it was just natural, the whole event was terrible. But it has brought many people together. Although the church might think we are teriible sinners I think we are very compassionate in our nature. Plus I never could take advice from a bunch pent up mother fuckers spuwing religion and touching little boys... Although that is the catholics. not the RR. Anyway organized reliogion Sucks!!! Even though I happen to attend church on a regular basis? Go figure.... But I can be who I am at my church. No one tells me when to go No tallys being kept... No money demanded... My Pastor Was A Vietnam Vet...
In fact I just counseled him regarding the loss of his Comapnion Dog, Deacon....

Whatever god the person in question happen to believe in. I don't believe in any god, of course, I was just speculating that if there was a god with certain properties, that god wouldn't deserve worship of any kind.

but these properties are within us as well. Look at things like war, famine, disease. Man knows how to conquer these things. But he like God choose to ignore it. Governments, Lawyers, Pharmacutical, companies, Sience itself... Can make great improvements.. but when greedy , powerful, and yes religious men get together, they can really fuck it up... but that has been throughout history.... nothing has really changed but the technology...
but it is comforting to know that in times of disaster, grief, there are those who are very compassionate... those who do not judge...
I have seen the light of a thousand Suns(Gods) but none so bright as the light within....

Indeed, but I was talking about properties such as omnipotens and omnipresence etc. But yes, humankind has showed a wide range of behaviour, good and bad. Especially bad is it when we make up a superior authority in whose name we then commit all kinds of atrocities. That we do good in the deity's name changes little, certainly we can do good without a big guy watching over us?
