Okay, but remember I wasn't asking you what you think, but what you think they think. If God is important to the equation,, to them, and it is, then they must think god "does" something. It would seem that god is not just an idea that inspires, the way an ocean might inspire a painter, but rather something that communicates as an intelligent being. Are you saying that most people who believe in god don't really believe in a being that attempts to "do" things, like communicate with its believers?

People who believe in a God believes that the God communicates with them in very subtle and cryptic ways. It is that cryptic message (although one could say that it is more communication from the unconscious of the individual) which the practioner tries to decypher.

Personally, I believe the devine does exist. I can't prove it nor am I trying to convince you of it. It is a powerful mechanism for change for the better for me as well as a way to communicate my desires for the future. The way I attain those desires is to change myself. I analyze what I am doing and recognize the symbology I use to be a direct communication with my own subconscious. The symbology is intertwined with my God belief.

I believe that some members of AA believe that God helps them in an inarticuable way. I believe some others believe that God "changes" them in some way although they can't articulate what was changed. And some look to the devine for support with the reasons that they were drinking in the first place.
