I'm encouraged by the new at SFGate.com by brother sent me.
Change in one policy at nation's largest employer expands to include workers' same-sex partners quote: "We are encouraged by this sign showing America's heartland employer understands same-sex couples share the responsibilities that come with being a family," Daryl Herrschaft, deputy director of Human Rights Campaign's WorkNet program, said in a statement.
This means a great step forward in the work of making all men and women equal in the United States.

Wow! That's pretty good considering Walmart's risk of losing some Bible belt customers. |

On the other hand, here in Massachusetts we have companies that are eliminating benefits for their employees' unmarried partners. They had extended the benefits to opposite-sex partners out of fairness when they did so to same-sex partners, but now neither will be eligible unless married. (Not all companies are doing this, but a handful of large ones have made the change. Could not find the Boston Globe article that detailed this online to include link.)
On the other, other hand, this is proof that gay marriage actually strengthens the institution of marriage. (Hey Falwell - Nanny nanny boo boo!)
