Google now has this whole satellite-image thing online. It looks pretty cool. It has, for example, pics of an aircraft carrier in the harbour of San Diego
Unfortunately it's restricted to the US for now. I did find some pics that might relate to our esteemed forum-members Kil and Filthy (one and two). Can either of you find your house on that?
(Edited because i forgot how to spell "satellite")

I was able to find my childhood home in Cleveland, but not my current residence in Fredericksburg, VA, which is about an hour south of D.C. The satellite photo was extremely low rez, and if I tried to zoom in I quickly reached a point beyond which "No Data Is Available."
This a national security thing? No high rez photos of the Capital or surrounding areas allowed to the public? Or has anyone found other areas with similarly bad resolutions?
Edit: Never mind. I can zoom into downtown D.C. just fine. I just must live in blind spot.

Right, HH-- I just tried to look at my parents' place (where I grew up) in a small town in Oklahoma and found that I couldn't zoom in there, either. It's probably just the case that the government hasn't bothered to get hi-res looks at Payne Country, Oklahoma because, well, there's nothing there! |

Nope, but I'm in town by address only. I actually live in a scattered-out, rural community. I did manage to find my M/C's clubhouse.
Pretty neat trick. I must get one of my kids to climb up on the roof and paint on an obscene phrase.

Wow. Zoom in once from this map, and five of the places I lived as a kid are clearly identifiable (to me). And on the right is the school I attended for 2nd grade (undergoing recent renovations in this photo). Damn, when I was 12, the upper-left corner of that map would have shown nothing but woods, and perhaps two more baseball diamonds. I slept in those woods one night at a cheesy summer-camp thing. The place I slept is now somewhere in that upper-left lake. Meeeeeeeeeemories.... |

For any swedes out there:
Have you noticed how Mälaren (Swedens 3rd or 4th? largest lake) simply doesn't seem to exist in these snaps? Or maybe my knowledge about geography has just deteriorated into oblivion in the last six years?!?! |

Yes, there definitly is something wrong with those images. Mälaren is almost completely missing. It's the 3rd largest lake. |
