I haven't seen a duece since I left the service. They used to round out our pay with them. Makes me a tad nostalgic, it does.
I too, hope for a vigorous lawsuit. Damnation upon all assholes!

Maybe there was a problem with the bills he was using? |

So this guy decides to print up some $7 bills as a gag, but being the perfectionist he is, he works on them really hard, and winds up with a beautiful piece of currency with a completely bogus amount on it. It's so good - he thinks to himself - that it ought to fool anyone. He decides he's gotta test his funny money.
So he drives hours into the mountains, to find a tiny little hick town with a tiny little general store with good highway access (just in case). He walks into a promising store, picks out a candy bar, and takes it to the clerk. "That'll be a buck," the clerk says. The guy opens his wallet, pulls out one of his seven-dollar bills, and hands it over.
The clerk gives him two $3 bills as change. |

There are a couple of fundamental problems, all of about the same level of importance, imo.
People are not taught to think critically. In fact, the opposite is true. Accross all political divides people are actually encouraged to be credulous.
Lack of personal responsibility. Why take responsibility for your problems when you can blame somebody else?
and several others.... but they stem from those two.

A friend had a good comment about "what's wrong with America", with saying that the country is full of lazy thinkers. |
"We are all connected; to each other biologically, to the earth chemically, to the rest of the universe atomically."
"So you're made of detritus [from exploded stars]. Get over it. Or better yet, celebrate it. After all, what nobler thought can one cherish than that the universe lives within us all?" -Neil DeGrasse Tyson |

And it's not a new phenomena. One of my personal experiences with the discouragement of thinking was when I was in high school in the early 1970s. During that time I had an occasional disciplinary run-in with the dean of boys. I clearly recall one particular time when he looked me in the eye and said, "Young man, you are a thinker, and thinkers make waves." Although I secretly took it to be a compliment, it was abundantly clear that he did not intend it as such.

What an asinine self serving excuse. Since when does a terrorist threat have anything to do with counterfeiting?
I would most definitely sue for false arrest both the store and the cops. And I'd expect Best Buy to settle out of court with something that was the equivalent of the inconvenience but I'd want the cops to all have to go through counterfeit money training.
I have seen 5 dollar bills quite smeared so I took them to the bank. They said it was normal. Since then I've noticed lots of smearing. It can be disconcerting. |
