Wednsday afternoon a friend of mine was killed in a motorcycle accident. A long truck made a left turn without noticing the bike, my friend was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. He was a cool guy, a member of my biker-gang.

I'm terribly sorry for your loss, Mab. It's never easy to lose a friend, so I'll save the consoling platitudes.

Shit. I'm sorry to hear that.
How are his friends, you and his family holding up?
If there's anything we can do to help, let us know.

We're coping... Just have to.
Suddenly I feel like getting a new battery to my bike is not that important. He was a really likable guy, got along with everyone, and never backed off from defending friends if they got into trouble. I worked with him a few years, and when he got sacked he started working security. He had a sense of integrity, and could be relied upon to do "what was right".
Just your shared sympathy is enough. |

I am so sorry. Those bikes are just invisible to other drivers sometimes. What a sad thing. My heart goes out to all his loved ones and friends. |

I am so sorry for your loss, Dr. Mabuse.
I used to ride with my brother, and I loved the freedom of it. He sold his motorcycle years ago after what he referred to as the "hundredth pants-shitting close call". People don't look for a bike.
My husband was hit by a car while bicycling. He was pulling his two small children behind the bike in one of those trailers made for that purpose. Thankfully, though the children were badly frightened, they were not injured. He suffered a broken elbow, several broken ribs, and lots of cuts from hitting and breaking the windshield. It could have been so much worse.
I haven't ridden my own bicycle for a couple of months. I've been telling myself it isn't because of a scare I had, but your thread has made me realize it probably was. In honor of your friend, I'm going to get my bike out of the garage this weekend and take her for a long spin.
I don't know if it's a consolation to you that he died doing something he enjoyed, but I hope that it is.
Please be careful out there.
