Hi folks, I was hoping that this might be something people that come to a forum/community would be interested. I am one of the hosts of a free internet audio/downloadable radio show called Skepticality ( http://www.skepticality.com/ ). And we are looking for feedback and comments from individuals like yourself!
We offer the show in a couple formats; direct listening or download, as well as 'podcast' format and audio RSS feed pickup.
Our show is about bringing light to legendary lies, myths, conspiracy theories, bad science and the like.
You can listen, or subscribe to the show for free at:
http://www.skepticality.com/
To download or listen to a show, just click the little 'Pod' icon next to the show names on the front page. There are about 4-5 episodes available now! Also, if you haven't heard of, or haven't checked out podcasting, or audio RSS subscriptions. You can click on the 'get podcast' menu item at the top of the home page. It will give you some information on how to get this show, and others automatically downloaded to your computer when they are released, so you don't have to remember to go to the site to check for new episodes.
Please take a listen, and shoot us some feedback, and if you have any problems or questions, please feel free to email us at feedback@skepticality.com.

Welcome to SFN skepticality.
I listened to a couple of shows and now I am a fan. I can easily recommend this show to our members. I only have one bone to pick, probably because it is a pet peeve of mine. A chimp is not a monkey…
The Phil Plait show was really good! He is, by the way, a registered member of SFN and occasionally posts here as The Bad Astronomer.
Anyhow, keep up the good work!

I've listened to the first show (the one with Phil)... And I enjoyed it. The sound quality wasn't optimal, but I guess it depends on what kind of hardware you're using as well as the sound-engineer's experience with it. As for the contents of the show: it was good. I though it was cool to get to know Phil a bit, I've browsed his website, but never had time to really get in deep.
He has the same peeve about StarWars as me: using Parsec as a measure of time and not distance. I though of it as comparison of speeds, using "standard speed" would make the Cessel-run seem like is was only 12 Parsec long, instead of the 40 PC or whatever. I have never heard about a black hole-explanation before. |

I know! You'd think that when Lucas did his big digital-remake, he'd have had Harrison Ford dub that line to say that he made the Kessel Run in X Standard Time Units, or whatever. |

interesting stuff i never knew about sweden at end of show #3, Dr. Mabuse.
BTW sound quality for me on that particular show was excellent. And the show I found good. I don't really listen to radio, but if i were going to, i'd definitely listen to that. |

The problem with our interview show, soundwise, was that we used a software program called 'skype', a free Voice over IP solution.
Skype is great stuff don't get me wrong, and can sound REALLY good, but it's depending on this picky internet thing, and sometimes, it really can screw up. We did another interview, just the day before for another show and it was dead perfect! So goes bandwidth.
Why did we have to use Skype? Well... because our Telos system, (Real telephone interface for our studio), didn't get here. We are a small studio, setup in my basement, and have quite a lot of professional equipment, just hasn't all gotten here, or hasn't all been purchased yet! That's the problem with doing some things for free... can take a while to get all the parts into place!
Thanks for all the great feedback, I encourage you to look into getting iPodder, or one of the other 'podcast catching' softwares so you can subscribe. That way, you can check for updates to our show, and others if you want, without having to keep going back to the site for updates. |

Hi. So, of course I'm late....anyway, you'll find a lot of kindred spirits here, unless of course, you don't believe in spirits! |

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.
Another example of this guy's lunacy here. |

I've only listened to #4 so far (I haven't had the time for more), but now I've got even more incentive to listen it.

Dr,
You might even remember the story we talk about at the end of #3. It was sent to me by folks that I work with in my 'normal' business from Sweden. (A group of developers). |

Yes, I'm aware of this. Like you mentioned in the show: A law was abolished in order to allow homosexual people to have sex with each other. Unfortunately the law was worded in such a way that it included other types of acts as well. Back when the law was written down homo-sex was considered as bad as bestiality, and they never considered there should be a difference, so it all ended up in the same paragraph. And parts of paragraphs can't be abolished, it all had to go (some judicial rule or something).
Veterinaries report some 200-300 cases/year where pets have suspicious injuries. Before the law was abolished an average of 20 people/year were prosecuted. Before 1778 there was actually a death penalty for bestiality. There is a movement trying to pass a law against bestiality. |

Whew,
Thanks Dr M. I like to know when my research pans out well. I've been trying to get most of my stuff right, which is probably why my show stays a 'little' dry on the content side. I don't want to put forward anything crazy that comes out to be totally wrong.
We try to keep it 'interesting' just by conversation, try to keep the facts side as good as we can. |
