If I were a reporter used by my source to manipulate the news not just for political gain but actually for an extortion payback, I'd give the jerk up without question. It isn't the same as protecting a leak.

Found this on Buzzflash:

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear."

-- Cicero Marcus Tullius, Born on January 3, 106 BC and was murdered on December 7, 43 BC.

Seems apt.....

Well, it appears that there's little doubt. Rove is at least one of the leakers. We're just not sure if he did it on purpose! He'll walk because he was eating Rush's Hillbilly Heroin when he spoke to Matt Cooper and isn't sure if he mentioned Ms. Plame's job status or not.

Oh, and as for Matt Cooper. I heard he got a phone call from the source releasing him from his journalistic duty. How convenient!

Miller, on the other hand, has a bright, new, orange wardrobe. I guess the source doesn't care enough to give her a phone call. Maybe she got jealous of Jeff Gannon, and Karl cut her off.

What a strange case!

And, B-gal is absolutely correct. Miller is NOT protecting a source. She's protecting her crony friends and looking to enhance her suck ass reputation. An intentional leak violating federal law and used to further political gains is not protected by ANY rules or ethics of journalism. This source is not a whistleblower or a staff member surrounded by corruption. The source, in this case, is a political apparatchik using the press as a pawn in a criminal action.

Miller gets none of my sympathy. Too bad Novak was such a coward that he rolled as soon as the prosecuter turned the light on and offered him a cigarette. I'll bet he'd look cute in orange!

By the way, I enjoyed this story about this case.

Does anybody think the TV news will ever cover this one?

I too, have small sympathy for Miller, and think that the brief vacation might improve her outlook, if not her suntan. And the odd part is that she never wrote an article on Plame!

If I were on the GJ, this drivle would have to be packaged in solid gold before I'd buy it. But I am not on that jury, and probably, in all interests of Truth and Justice, it's just as well....

A strange case indeed, and getting curiouser.

I just wanted to clear up Rove's defense. It seems that Karl was indeed Cooper's source, kind of.
quote:
Rove has carefully chosen his words when questioned about the leak. "I didn't know her name. I didn't leak her name," he told CNN last year when asked if he had had anything to do with it.
In other words, he couldn't have leaked her name. Instead,
quote:
The Newsweek article said an e-mail Cooper sent his bureau chief after briefly talking with Rove stated that "it was, KR said, Wilson's wife, who apparently works at the agency on wmd (weapons of mass destruction) issues who authorized the trip."

The e-mail did not suggest that Rove used Plame's name or that he knew she was a covert agent, the article said.
So, there you have it. He didn't out her because he never actually said her name!

Can we create a new adjective meaning 'bizarrely pernicious.' We'll call it Rovian.

Man, how much OxyContin was Rush getting each week? It must have been quite a bit because the craps still floating around Washington. Karl and his lawyer are still high! And, it's my bet that they have enough left over to share with the prosecutor and the judge.

Filthy, I'm afraid Karl and Benny are never going to become room mates and 'good buddies' at Huntsville.

Maybe, if we're lucky, we can still catch Karl playing army with Jeff Gannon...

Rove doesn't need to fake a technicality. If he didn't have security clearance and knew the name via that clearance, there is no crime according to an Air America interview today. The person who revealed it to Rove is the criminal.

MY question, clearly I'm missing something here, is why would he have a specific security clearance with access to the names of CIA operatives? I have only heard one news commenter mention the question and that was on Air America. The regular news media seem a bit daft not even thinking out loud about it, wouldn't you say?

Well I looked him up so I have to add I guess this is how he'd know:
Wikipedia
quote:
On February 8, 2005, Rove was appointed deputy chief of staff in charge of policy.
That's interesting because that would seem to make him responsible. Hmmmm...

Apparently it is Rove's contention that he heard the name of Wilson's wife from a reporter, before he told another reporter.

He is a master, there is no denying it, of spin and bullshit.

"Oh, what a tangled web we weave....."

I saw pretty much the same article at My Way News.

At this point, I wonder which liar will weasel out from under first.

Well, this topic is about to be forgotten in the press--At least for a little while. The White House has announced that they have a nominee for the Court.

While reporting the new story of the day, Bob Franken at CNN said on the noon broadcast the Rove story is "Sooo yesterday." I hope he was making a joke!
