So what's the deal with the insurgents?
Two years ago, the Bush administration would have called these people "terrorists," and wouldn't have been caught dead having "talks" with them.
Where did the Republican spin machine fail, that the folks in Iraq fighting against the U.S. and budding government - and even doing nasty things like car bombings - are now acknowledged to be on the same tacit footing as the American militiamen of 200 years ago, who were, strictly speaking, insurgents?
Whatever the reason(s) for this downgrade in propaganda, it's nice to know that the spinners can, indeed, fail so completely that they just give up.

And now Rumsfeld is saying an insurgency can last 5,6, 12 years?
Also, what do you think the Bush administration would think of a group that protested taxes by destroying taxed property, demanded to rule themselves instead of being ruled by a country across the ocean, and recruited key people in the governments of other countries to support their cause? We used to call them patriots. Founding Fathers, even. |

They are only "Founding Fathers" calibre if they play nice with the USA.
Though I wonder how much the white/christian (even though most weren't christians) plays into it. |
