The new look is great!

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Why not question something for a change?

I've been a professional magician on and off for over 30 years, so I've always been interested in some of the great magician skeptics like Houdini, James Randi, and Penn & Teller. It seems we magicians are keenly aware that things aren't always as they appear to be and that many possibilities often exist to explain the "unexplainable".

I've speculated as to why some of the best known skeptics of the ages have also been some of the most popular magical entertainers. Maybe being skeptical makes the arts and sciences of deception more intriguing, therefore spurring some of our early interest in the hobby of magic. Or maybe pursuing the hobby of magic opens our minds to some broader possibilities and causes us to become more skeptical. Probably a little of each.

Even among magicians there are bad apples of course, like John Edwards and Uri Geller, who would have us believe that their magic tricks are actually real phenomena. There are also magicians who use their craft to get attention, usually from children, with the ultimate goal of convincing those children that certain myths of religion are truthful facts. Some magicians have also been among the most successful con men and casino cheats, although by the nature of those endeavors there is usually an intentional effort to avoid fame or popularity.

But all in all, with articulate intelligent folks like The Amazing Randi in our ranks, I feel I'm in good company as one of the magician skeptics of the world. Good show, skepticality, and thanks for posting it.

Very well done.
