Grrrr! A woman is supposed to stay with the bastard who's going to beat her to death BECAUSE it's where god says she belongs! Narrow minded, god says I can, sadistic bastards!
If I wasn't so incoherently furious, I suppose I could come up with something better.
The constitution may not say anything about separation of church and state but the amendments to the constitution damn sure do. Don't these people study anything besides their own warped view of history! One of the reasons the US expresses a desire for freedom of religion because of the control exercised by the Church of England.
Regardless, I don't need these self-righteous bastards shoving their 'I need to feel in control because god tells me I'm supposed to be' crap down my throat. And then to assume because I don't buy their crap, I am a lesbian (nothing against them mind, just not one) and a man-hater (only periodically ), is beyond any sense of reason or logic.
Flamed I know, but this crap pisses me off.
BTW, great link to all the neo-nazi christian crap these charlatans try to foist on the public.

yeah I found that Weird Crap site by following a referrel to this site(they linked to us). The embarrassing thing is that I did it at work and the top of that domain was porn. Doh! Gotta pay the bills I guess.

Gosh Trish, don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel. Seriously though, I know what you're talking about. Right before I retired from the AF, I worked in an office with a couple of male young-earth creationists. You can imagine they were just thrilled to pieces to be working with a skeptical atheist female. At first they tried to convert me. Hahahahahaha. Then I was treated like "the girl Mom warned me about". Finally, when they realized I wasn't raising demons or drowning puppies during my lunch hour, we got along okay. Of course, this meant that the conversation was pretty much limited to the sports and weather. Yesterday I dropped by the old unit and saw the guys. We had a nice chat. We agreed that blizzard a few weeks ago was really unusual. Lisa

Lisa: What, don't hold back? I was. I spit venom over that particular line of reasoning. I've worked with fundies, kept trying to shove their cartoons and crap off on me. Read them for a good laugh and handed them back. I don't care if they beleive there is a god, just so they don't shove their crap down my throat. Then again, they think they have the divine right to do just that.

I must be lucky, there don't seem to be that many fundies out where i live and for the most part they aren't as vocal or rude as they seem to be in some places. Oh sure, there are moments, heh, but it's not as bad as it is for some of you. I actually know several atheists and agnostics at work and lots of theists. Somehow theists are easier to take than fundies.

Not a topic I generally try to get into at work, as soon as I find a job again. Fundies, I think, are the worst of the lot. 'Specially since they think it their divine duty to foist their religious views on everyone they meet.
My grandfather was a fundamentalist southern baptist, told me I was going to burn in hell because I was being raised catholic. Catholics aren't much better, give you a hand-out (went to catholic school on the 'good graces' of the church) and never let you forget how indebted you are to them.
Religion puts people down and holds them back on what they can become. Never have understood why that is, nor anymore do I care.

You are lucky. Here, I'm still 'in the closet', surrounded by theists and fundies. Atheists have gotten death threats around here.
(I'm sure it wouldn't be that bad, but my heart still skips a beat when I think someone's going to start asking about 'what church I go to'.)

Where do you guys live! I've never been bugged at work or in public by anyone pushin religion. I guess it may be the fact that Vegas resembles hell in many ways. Sure does keep the evangelists away
Now Utah on the other hand is quite different. I swear you can feel the religious opression as soon as you cross the border.

Did you see Tokyodreamer's profile? Huntsville, AL. Ouch! Right in the heart of the Bible-belt. Even though SD is pretty conservative, folks up here are almost militantly private. "Thou shalt mind thy own freakin' business" seems to be the attitude. The last shop I was in was the only time I ran into any problems while in the USAF for 20 years. I guess the military represents a cross-section of America, so you gotta expect to run across the occasion fruit-loop. Lisa

There's a Jehovah's Witness Hall down the street from where I live. 8 am Saturday morning they come knocking on my door! Guess after I blasted them with astronomy they've deemed it their duty to come callin' and convert this poor misguided sinner.
Tokyodreamer: I've begun to run from these yoyo's myself. Let them know I'm a non-believer and they try harder. Still don't tell mom, she's great at the catholic guilt trip thing! You'd think I could shake that response after a few years.

Trish, A friend of mine rid himself of the 0800 door-pounders for good. When he saw them coming up the driveway, he grabbed a beer, disrobed, and answered the door. I don't have that much in the way of guts...yet. On of these mornings they'll catch me with a four-oak-leaf-cluster hangover, and all bets will be off ;) Lisa

Don't know that I have the guts for that either or my neighbors would appreciate it. Oh well, maybe I'll just park around the block on Fridays.

Can agree with you here. Had a friend I met online, a very nice woman, who eventualy revealed her husband beat her. He came from a good baptist family, and between him, his brother, and his father they had 56 counts of assault. That's just what the police knew about.
She had accepted it for years thinking it was normal, untill she made friends with me and several others. Thankfuly, after 17 years of marrage she was able to get the courage to get out of there and start a new life.
One thing she commented on was how she had gotten more respect and support from us, her athiest friends, than she had ever gotten from the people who supposedly believed in god.
(she's still a religious woman tho)

Oh yeah, I dread the thought of my mom ever asking me about my feelings toward religion. She actually worries about us going to hell. I'd hate to upset her. But I wouldn't lie about it either.
