Well, sort of!
Thanks to a lot of the folks here at the SFN forums, our show Skepticality has hit #2, (as of today), on the U.S. iTunes system!
I know a lot, if not most of the people on this forum have listened to the show, so... I owe a thanks to most of you here.

Well done, well done!
The credit belongs entirely to you -- if the show were not of quality, you would have no listeners, right?
Keep up the good fight!

You guys have an awesome show, very much a pleasure to listen to. I loved your recent interview with George Hrab.
Keep up the good work. I know you will. |

Congradulations! You truely have a great show, and I know you will have years of success.
Do you have any stats on the number of listeners or anything of that nature?
Our stats are difficult, for one big reason. Apple iTunes.
When you hit the top 20 in iTunes for longer than 4 days, they cache your files on a big server farm. They do this for two reasons;
1) To make sure that podcasters bandwidth doesn't make Apple look amateur, so that folks with only 10 bucks a month hosting, can get popular and Apple serves their files without the public knowing, and without a small time dude getting left with a huge bill.
2) To keep the iTunes Top 100 calculations a mystery. They don't want podcasters sharing their statistics and trends so they can figure out how to market and release information to weasel into the top 100, and top 20. So, they serve most, but randomly, of the files that are downloaded by iTunes uses once you are popular.
So, I only know the numbers for the first 10-20 hours, (How long it takes Apple to come around and scrub my files into the farm), after I release a new show. Additionally, I know my 'direct' download numbers. I was told by someone at Apple to safely assume that iTunes is 80% of my listeners... past that first 20 hours.
So, I get, on average about 12k - 15k downloads in the first 20 hours. That is unique IP full downloads.
If Apple is correct, then I am probably at about 30-40k listeners conservatively.
I put only 20k in my media kit... Since I *Know* I have at least that. |

When have facts ever stood in the way of good marketing? You don't list how many people you know listen, you list how many people can potentially listen--and since you are on the internet that's practically everyone. So you should say "Now reaching people all around the globe in over 100 countries on every continent save Antarctica." It sounds more impressive.
And congrats on the success. It is well deserved.

I don't know, you just always have to exclude Antarctica.
