James Dobson article has got some weird s**t in it this time, though SOME of it almost sounds "reasonable"!

quote:
The second thing we know is that the disorder is not typically "chosen." Homosexuals deeply resent being told that they selected this same-sex inclination in pursuit of sexual excitement or some other motive. It is unfair, and I don't blame them for being irritated by that assumption. Who among us would knowingly choose a path that would result in alienation from family, rejection by friends, disdain from the heterosexual world, exposure to sexually transmitted diseases such as AIDS and tuberculosis, and even a shorter lifespan? 4 No, homosexuality is not "chosen" except in rare circumstances. Instead, bewildered children and adolescents such as Mark find themselves dealing with something they don't even understand.

You'll note though, how simplistic his discussion of the "genetics" of it is: They act like it's either on or off, as opposed to a range of effects. (like the range of color expressed with the pea flower---Red-->shades of pink-->White)

Ah, yes, the weird crap:
This is the part Dobson quotes from "A Parent's Guide to Preventing Homosexuality, written by clinical psychologist Joseph Nicolosi, Ph.D. Dr. Nicolosi":

quote:
He needs to mirror and affirm his son's maleness. He can play rough-and-tumble games with his son, in ways that are decidedly different from the games he would play with a little girl. He can help his son learn to throw and catch a ball. He can teach him to pound a square wooden peg into a square hole in a pegboard. He can even take his son with him into the shower, where the boy cannot help but notice that Dad has a penis, just like his, only bigger.

Ok now, ewww!

I know that there's a "cultural bias" towards the way I think about that, but come on! Dobson and the "psych" guy he quotes come from the same culture I am; where that kind of thing is registered as creepy.

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.

And what about the girls? Should dad bathe them, too?
The beauty is, how exactly do they think this will work?

I wonder how this idiot explains homosexuality among other animal species? Poor little gay penguin didn't get to shower with daddy.

Hey, I just thought of something. It's no longer trendy to blame Mom for the homosexual son, it's Dad's fault.

He will not.

Animal homosexuality is not something these people want to hear about.

You can't sell a nature film includes that includes references to animal homosexuality.

Man, that's some weird stuff and lousy scholarship. I wonder what subject he holds a doctorate in.
At least he accepts evolution though (even though he doesn't quite "get it"):
quote:

Furthermore, if homosexuality were specifically inherited, it would tend to be eliminated from the human gene pool because those who have it tend not to reproduce. Any characteristic that is not passed along to the next generation eventually dies with the individual who carries it.

Also, Fafblog has a great article on identifying homosexuality in children.
quote:

Place two photographs in front of your son lying face down. On the left place a photograph of Tom Welling, TV's gay Superman; on the right place the stern but genial visage of James Dobson. Flip them over simultaneously. Which does your son look at first? If he looks at Tom Welling, he is gay. If he looks at James Dobson, he is gay with an unnatural fixation for James Dobson.

Why should he have to? The biblical standards are for people not animals.

Where in the Bible does it say boys need to see their dad's penis lest they become an abomination?

Where does it advise how not to have gay kids?

If he wishes to argue that homosexuality is unnatural, his model cannot accomodate the existance of homosexual animals (because animals are obviously natural, lacking a culture).

If he argues that homosexuality is somehow caused by neglect by the father, the existance of homosexual animals also poses problems, especially in animals were the father plays little or no role in the upbringing.

It may be natural or unnatural, I do not know. I only know it is unnatural for me but it could be natural for some. I take their word for it that they were born homosexual. If left to natural desires some not all people would steal, lie, commit adultery and some would and do commit murder. I have thoughts about pretty women when I see them that are wrong and is sin. It takes God to help me overcome these desires. The same is for steeling, lying and homosexuality.

So.... you are saying that if it weren't for your belief in god, that you'd be openly homosexual?

What that means is that you are homosexual, and are repressing it due to cultural influences.

Theft and dishonesty have real social negative affects. What negative affect does being gay have, besides upsetting some mouth breathing lunatics?

When I see a beautiful woman I get thoughts and ideas that you would consider sinful (especially since I already have a girlfriend), Robb. But I don't need a God or fear of forfeiting my chance for an afterlife to restrain myself. I believe am a moral person, even though I don't believe in God.

True!
Morale is when you do the right thing because it is right and not just because you believe that you will get punished if you do otherwise.

No, I am saying that everybody has tendencies toward one vice or another, some it is gambling, some stealing and some homosexuality. I said in my previous post that I do not know if people are born gay or not, I will beleive them when they say they were born gay. I have temptations that I struggle with also. I choose to let God help me through these temptations. Most here choose to overcome these temptations with their own willpower and belief that they are good.

I am talking about what God consideres sin, not what negative impact it has on society. I will follow Gods morals before our societies morals.

You and Dr. Mabuse assume I follow God because I am afraid not going to heaven. Not true. I follow God because he loves me and has done everything he could to reconcile us with him. There are many more reasons but I will leave it at that since I do not want to sermonize. (not sure if sermonize is a real word).
