My girlfriend and I have close ties to some people in the music business. She heard from musician friends that soul singer Irma Thomas and legendary rocker Fats Domino, both in New Orleans, are missing. Their whereabouts currently unknown.

I heard a cameraman from MSNBC state today that Harry Connick Jr. has been seen in the city helping out survivors. His whereabouts there are currently unknown. I wrote to MSNBC and asked if they could verify and follow-up on this story.

Hoping they're all safe and for more definite news soon.

National news last night reported Fats had been found.

Those who danced were thought quite insane by those who could not hear the music.

New Orleans has long been noted as a center of culture and a sort of gathering place for artists, particularly musicians of course. It is also home to a variety of other entertainers including several professional magicians who live in the area. Most are not well known names to the general public, but many are quite well known inside the industry. One New Orleans magician who is a household name is Harry Anderson.

Nobody is discounting the concern for the hurricane victims or survivors with names and faces we don't recognize. Within the scope of the disaster the celebrities aren't any more or less important than any other residents of New Orleans at this point, but since we do "know" these people, there is bound to be some interest in their status. We were glad to receive the following report on Harry Anderson's situation from Mike Caveney at The Genii Forum, a popular internet magicians' discussion group.
quote:
Word from Harry Anderson is that he and Elizabeth stayed in New Orleans during the storm. They are OK and, amazingly, so is his shop and Oswald's, his new night club. At least in comparison to the pictures of the rest of the city that we are seeing on TV. They left town the next day and are now in Austin.

This is all good news. I'll link this info along to other concerned friends. Thanks.
