quote:
LONDON -- Britain has granted permission to scientists to create a human embryo with genetic material from two mothers, officials said.

Scientists from Britain's Newcastle University plan to transfer the pro-nuclei - the components of a nucleus of a human embryo - by a man and woman into an unfertilized egg from another woman to prevent mothers passing certain genetic diseases to their unborn babies.

Just wondering if religious people would consider this to be a human with a soul.

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.

What a bunch of nutters! lol

It was interesting to read most reactions seemed to be shapened by sci-fi horror movies and that goddamned "left behind" bullshit.

As Atrios would say: "Heh, indeedy!"

Indeedy indeed, I would never have thought that the Mormons would get into the genetics game.

It seems the obvious way to prevent genetic disease passed on via mitochondrial DNA.

Wonder if they remove the nucleus of the unfertilized donor egg first?

When I just glanced at the title of this article, I vaguely imagined lesbians everywhere grinning and saying "Sweet."

But the title of the article, while not inaccurate, is slightly misleading. I mean, they didn't make an embryo out of only genetic material from two women. They used the mitochondrial DNA from one and put it with nuclear DNA from both a man and a woman.

So perhaps bisexual polyamorous threesomes everywhere are grinning and saying "Sweet".
