Actually, the U.S. Government cannot, by law, own any copyrights. All works produced by the government (including NASA) are public domain.
Does that include everything that is published on NASA website? Like amateur-astronomer pictures published there?
Anyway, thanks Dave! I didn't know about that the Government and Public Domain. |

That's a good question. I suspect not.quote: Anyway, thanks Dave! I didn't know about that the Government and Public Domain.
It's an effect of the whole "we the people" thing. Government work is done at the behest of the citizenry, so therefore the government can't claim ownership. How's it work in Sweden?
Oh, Trish: no apologies necessary, I just happened to see the link post before bbbb posted his cut-and-paste from it. |

So... does that mean I can freely use images from NASA? (such as Earth seen from space, lunar surface, etc) |

I think so, but honestly, I don't know for sure. It's not like they have anything of interest to copy... |

Yes, I guess so, unless they are marked as taken by photographer. A member of my astronomy-club has a couple of photos of Hale-Bopp published by NASA. Very nice pics. I'll ask him if NASA said anything about waving copyrights for them. |

I was thinking more along the lines of Hubble heritage images... it's because sometimes I want to do something with, say, the Earth in the background rather than a random planet, and it'd be neat if it were the Earth itself, rather than a rendition. |

You guys may like to read the following, which implicates that Dick Cheney had the means, motive, and opportunity to be the prime suspect in the 9-11 case. Cheney, and not President Bush was playing the role of commander and chief while the events of 9-11 unfolded.
http://www.fromthewilderness.com/free/ww3/011805_simplify_case.shtml
A portion: quote: Means - Dick Cheney and the Secret Service: Dick Cheney was running a completely separate chain of Command & Control via the Secret Service, assuring the paralysis of Air Force response on 9/11. The Secret Service has the technology to see the same radar screens the FAA sees in real time. They also have the legal authority and technological capability to take supreme command in cases of national emergency. Dick Cheney was the acting Commander in Chief on 9/11. (Click here for a summary of these points)
Motive - Peak Oil: At some point between 2000 and 2007, world oil production reaches its peak; from that point on, every barrel of oil is going to be harder to find, more expensive to recover, and more valuable to those who recover and control it. Dick Cheney was well aware of the coming Peak Oil crisis at least as early as 1999, and 9/11 provided the pretext for the series of energy wars that Cheney stated, "will not end in our lifetime." (Click here for a summary of these points)
Opportunity - 9/11 War Games: The Air Force was running multiple war games on the morning of 9/11 simulating hijackings over the continental United States that included (at least) one "live-fly" exercise as well as simulations that placed "false blips" on FAA radar screens. These war games eerily mirrored the real events of 9/11 to the point of the Air Force running drills involving hijacked aircraft as the 9/11 plot actually unfolded. The war games & terror drills played a critical role in ensuring no Air Force fighter jocks - who had trained their entire lives for this moment - would be able to prevent the attacks from succeeding. These exercises were under Dick Cheney's management. (Click here for a summary of these points)

In response to Mab and Siberia, I believe that the Hubble shots released by NASA have already served their purpose for those who took them for research and are public domain. But for confirmation, you might ask the question at www.badastronomy.com If anyone knows, it'll be Phil, or he should be able to find out. But I think this came up in a converstation over there a couple years ago. |

I might believe it if I could find any evidence that the Secret Service is ever a part of the U.S. Command and Control structure outside of its role in NSSEs, of which 9/11 was not one. |

Who was able to fake moon landing might have faked 9/11 attack.
Excuse me, but you are seeing the two Towers being on fire and don't you do anything for a long time?
Why didn't you throw water on the flames with Canadairs and helicopters used to extinguish the flames?
Didn't you have Canadairs and helicopters?
You went to Saturn, Mars, Titan, you hit a comet but you didn't go above the Towers with Canadairs and helicopters to extinguish the flames.
Are you idiot?

Don't you have an appointment to be condescending and rude somewhere else or is that not until 4? There's a tour bus leaving in half an hour, be under it.
Extreme wind shifts and currents prevent helicopters from manuvering close to burning buildings of this size for fire suppression. I've had about enough of your pointless and unevidenced conjecture. |

Look at images and movies of 9/11 attack. There was no wind, don't talk nonsense. |

As you are the BEST (never even been in a helicopter) HELICOPTER pilot in the world, BREAKBALLS (actually he's BIGBRAIN), I am sure you know (doesn't have a clue) there are extreme convection currents around fires. Thanks for your (useless) input and I hope (a bird craps on your head) you have a nice day. ()
