The Nobel Peace Prize sends a covert but clear political statement:

IAEA, the International Atomic Energy Agency, and it's Director General is awarded the prize:
"for their efforts to prevent nuclear energy from being used for military purposes and to ensure that nuclear energy for peaceful purposes is used in the safest possible way"

I'm glad for this award, I'm also a bit sad that Hans Blix didn't get a piece of the pie. Blix was instrumental in setting up and getting IAEA organisation going. He must have been nominated but I guess the political stance of awarding him too would have been too much for US.

Before I hit that part, I'd thought of Blix. Near end of his service, radio talk guy in Los Angeles (who I like listening to, although he's wrong sometimes) was griping Blix "wanted to nominate Saddamm Hussein for a Nobel Peace Prize" (it was stupid- I laughed.) I guess the test of time has given Blix his revenge.

Yes, Blix certainly should have had a piece of that. And it's something of a slap in the Bush administration's face as well.

Coincidently, the Ig Nobel Prize is also awarded this time of year.
