Argh! A Wiccan spell! Run for the hills!
Whee! I didn't expect that my scare-them-up-into-the-mountains incantation would be successful! |

Welcome to SFN, Bunga... I'm not sure, but it sounds like you might have sold subjectmatter's friend a car a decade back (probably a Saab.) Trish- excommunication won't work, just like once the IRS found out I was breathing, that was it. Martin Luther cut you some write-offs with God, but Saint Peter still don't take kindly to tax-cheats. Uh uh. DrM- as Pentacostal, he files under a different code (spell-casting aside.) For the rest of us, as pagans, it looks pretty grim.

According to an article I just read in Humanist Living, Wicca is the fastest growing religion in America in terms of percentage growth. Not sure why that is or what it means.

It means their incantations and spells are working. |

It means that it still has a relatively small following. (Current censuses put the number at about 1 million adherents up from about 100,000 in 1980.) I blame it on the ability of works to be published and quick dissemination of information on the Web. Plus new authors who seem to resonate with younger folks. (Silver Ravenwolf, etc) |

But that means I'm no longer recognized by the Catholic Church, which in my book is good enough. I can't figure out a way to get de-baptized, besides which, I had no friggin' say in the matter, ain't much a 4 day old infant can say. |

Joking put aside, "in a nutshell" (maybe a sentence or two... it's one of those questions I'm sure it would take volumes to answer in detail) why can Wicca benefit people?
BTW I haven't heard of "Humanist Living" but I've read "The Humanist" magazine from time-to-time... it's light reading, and pretty good. |

OK. Lessee. First of all, the person in question would have to have a psychological need for ceremony and mysticism. The path itself is just a methodology of self betterment and communication with the devine. There are some techniques for religious introspection which have other uses. For instance, meditiation. Meditiation is practice for focusing ones mind on a single subject or concept for an extended period of time. Techniques for relaxation are also stressed. Then there's the environmental aspects such as respect for nature.
I won't say that this path is better than others, it is simply better for me. |
