Actually, I thought it was quite funny. In many ways it was like watching two homeless men argue which one of them is the rightful King of Spain.

Just a couple of hours ago, I sighted a UFO.

I was watching a plane cross the sky. I could see a few steady lights, and one strobe. The strobe flashed about once a second. As I was watching, at one pulse of the strobe, I saw a second light a few plane-widths away. Sort of like this (where each dot represents a flash of the strobe):
..............................:.............................
Until that "extra" strobe is definitely IDed (which is highly unlikely) it will be a UFO.

(I happen to think it was a coincidental flash of light from behind me, reflected off a scratch on my glasses as I turned my head, following the plane, but I can't know for sure.)

Obviously this is evidence of aliens from the 17th dimension, Dave. The stroboscopic lights are designed to make you think you saw a plane, not the mothership. It's a well known cloaking device. You were you wearing your tinfoil hat, weren't you?

This reminds me of an often unmentioned UFO illusion. Here's how it goes:
A person is out at night observing the stars. This person needs glasses; otherwise the sky looks like a lot of nearby galaxies and nebulas rather than points of light.

The night sky in the country is spooky and inky black, and the stars are bright. They stand in awe of the starry sky. The feeling is one of mystery. Suddenly, they notice something strange. In the sky, a dark alien shape hovers motionless. As they look at it, the mysterious dark shape begins to move. Before they can lift their binoculars, the mysterious dark craft, (perhaps made of negative energy,) slips away silently. They follow it but it seems to move away at enormous speed and without a sonic boom. (Obviously a supremely advanced technology.)

The observer can't believe it and removes his glasses, rubbing them in his un-tucked shirt and, replacing the glasses, notices that the advanced craft has disappeared. Vanished into the depths of space!

Yes, the UFO was a smudge on the lens. In the dark of night, the smudge assumed a curious dark shape in the sky. Following it with the eye, the wearer turns his head toward the object which, being as it's on his glasses, lies just out of view, yet mysteriously moving away as he turns his head more. He turns faster, and it moves on faster still, just out of focus. If he removes his glasses to clean them as some bespectacled wearers often unconsciously do, the effect of the illusion and mysterious vanishing act is sealed. If they don't clean their glasses, the mysterious object comes back, and they discover the smudge.

Diversity, independence, innovation and imagination are progressive concepts ultimately alien to the conservative mind.
