Let's remember those who've served - as Boron pointed out on the Calendar.

Happy Veteran's Day, everyone! This afternoon I'll be hooking up with some fellow vets, and here are our ground rules: 1) The bartender had better stand us at least one beer. 2) All remarks shall begin "Yeah?, well back when I was...." 3) Any civilian wonk foolish enough to join us shall listen to these stories respectfully and keep his soup sucker shut
Remember those who have gone before us. Keep in your thoughts the ones who are taking the heat right now. They're the veterans of tomorrow. Lisa USAF 1981-2001

My mind must be in la la land...
How I could forget that 10 November 1775 us the Marine Corps birthday. So, yesterday the Corps turned 226 years old.
Excerpt from the Customs and Traditions of the Marines Hymn
Many interesting stories have been associated with the Marines' Hymn. One of the best was published in the Stars and Stripes, the official newspaper of the American Expeditionary Force, under date of 16 August 1918.
"A wounded officer from among the gallant French lancers had just been carried into a Yankee field hospital to have his dressing changed. He was full of compliments and curiosity about the dashing contingent that fought at his regiment's left.
"A lot of them are mounted troops by this time, he explained, for when our men would be shot from their horses, these youngsters would give one running jump and gallop ahead as cavalry. I believe they are soldiers from Montezuma. At least, when they advanced this morning, they were all singing "From the Halls of Montezuma to the Shores of Tripoli."
Semper Fi!

Sigh, this was an eventful weekend for me. Friday, I started the evening by celebrating the respective birthdays of the Navy and the Marine Corps. Saturday, once my hangover cleared (somewhat), I began celebrating the birthday of my good friend Terry. Today is Veteran's Day, and my friends and I honored this by swapping "sea stories." These are the good excuses to celebrate.
Tomorrow, I shall conduct a small celebration honoring some local Veterans at the nursing home nearby. It makes me proud to be a part of this, and I trust I will make some people happy.

Boron, I'm in love with a handsom guy named Terry, so I can understand how you would want to celebrate BUT if Kil doesn't care about your drinking, I do. You are too young to be getting drunk. Please be careful. nlm Oh yea! And, Happy Veterans Day to all you guys. Thank you.
