This is the sorry, little piece of treasonous shit that was foisted off upon us in AD 2,000!

Bush on the Constitution: 'It's just a goddamned piece of paper'

Last month, Republican Congressional leaders filed into the Oval Office to meet with President George W. Bush and talk about renewing the controversial USA Patriot Act.

Several provisions of the act, passed in the shell shocked period immediately following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, caused enough anger that liberal groups like the American Civil Liberties Union had joined forces with prominent conservatives like Phyllis Schlafly and Bob Barr to oppose renewal.

GOP leaders told Bush that his hardcore push to renew the more onerous provisions of the act could further alienate conservatives still mad at the President from his botched attempt to nominate White House Counsel Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court.

“I don't give a goddamn,” Bush retorted. “I'm the President and the Commander-in-Chief. Do it my way.”

“Mr. President,” one aide in the meeting said. “There is a valid case that the provisions in this law undermine the Constitution.”

“Stop throwing the Constitution in my face,” Bush screamed back. “It's just a goddamned piece of paper!”

I've talked to three people present for the meeting that day and they all confirm that the President of the United States called the Constitution “a goddamned piece of paper.”

And, to the Bush Administration, the Constitution of the United States is little more than toilet paper stained from all the shit that this group of power-mad despots have dumped on the freedoms that “goddamned piece of paper” used to guarantee.

Some will argue validity of Bush actually making the statement.

Regardless of whether he actually spoke the words, he has revealed this same attitude by his actions throughout his presidency.

It's sad that it's not unbelievable from the moment you hear it. You should be able to immediately say, “No, the president would never say such a thing.”

Man, how I wish he would crack and say something like this in front of a reporter's microphone. Just once.

From what I'm reading, it's being argued even as we speak. But as you say; it's a damned shame that any person high in the government could be accused of this and have his past performance add credence to it. I've been calling Bush a sociopath from the day one, and something like this supports the claim all too well.

Capitol Hill Blue has the reputation of being pretty reliable, but I too would like to see and hear him say it in front of a public microphone and remove all doubt. And ya know what; I think he just might do it, or something like it. It could be just my loathing-filled imagination, but I think he's getting less stable all the time.

Somehow this story hardly changes anything I've previously thought about Bush. It's not anymore Earthshaking than the last 5 years of this guy and his buddies. Does anyone with an objective exam of the last 5 years have any doubt Bush has no concern about the Constitution? Gees, what else is new?

Technically, he's right. I say the same thing about the Bible all the time, which was similarly held as untouchable.
