They are very common along the Atlantic coast of the US and are considered a nuisance by sport fishermen, even though they are excellent on the table (if you know how to clean them). Harmeless and inoffensive, and slow swimmers, they feed on shellfish and small fish when they can catch one. Also squid and cuttlefish. They attain about the size of a dinner platter.

Indeed it is; sometimes nearly half as long as the shark itself.
