A disgusting religious practice is talked about here.

quote:
A clash between a religious ritual and public health concerns has escalated with a New York City health department letter warning Jews about practicing an aspect of circumcision.

The ritual, called metzitzah b'peh , which involves sucking blood from an infant's penis to clean it after circumcision, puts babies at risk for herpes, Health Commissioner Thomas Frieden wrote in a Dec. 13 open letter to Jewish media and leaders.

"Because oral herpes is common, and because it is spread by infected saliva through breaks or cuts in the skin, metzitzah b'peh can directly expose circumcised infants to the herpes virus," Frieden noted.

As I said on a certain other board, only because this is a religious tradition is why that sick shit isn't illegalized.

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.

Yeah, have heard about this one before....

Herpes isn't the only health risk, the human mouth tends to be fairly filled with microorganisms.

Not to mention its gross.

I had heard of this. This is prompted by one person who had to inform the families he performed this on that he had herpes. The practice is not commonplace in mainstream Judaism anymore. It is exceeding rare when it does happen in the US. The story of the infected person performing the act prompted the Jewish community to start discussions on outlawing it's practice, IIRC.
