If anyone is open minded enough to listen to various points of view. This newsletter was just sent to me from the radio station I listen to that O'Reilly is on. You could win a trip to Walt Disney World too. Actually I'm posting to ask, how could a station let a host lie (as mentioned by some other posters here), wouldn't the station be in trouble from the FCC or elsewhere? Why would someone outright lie when they know it can be proven otherwise? I don't understand.

No, the government of the United States of America only "regulates" the truth when you're speaking before a judge or when you're trying to sell a product. The laws of the US also allow you to sue someone else who has lied about you in such a way as to do serious damage to your credibility and/or livelihood, but there's a very high bar one must hurdle to do so successfully.quote: Why would someone outright lie when they know it can be proven otherwise?
Because they also know that their "target audience" will dismiss the accusation of a lie as nothing more than an attempt to shut the liar up, or they'll ignore it completely. The vast majority of the fans of O'Reilly don't want to hear that he's lying to them because they like what they hear. |

Dave_W handled the answer to those.
I'll only add: That politics clouds the minds of people. They will ignore evidence that directly contradicts their political views, and they seek only reinforcement of their beliefs.
The media, knowing this very well, sells what they know will get people to watch/listen to their station.
Truth is irrelevent.
Oh.,.. I should also mention that Bill Orielly is a lying sack of shit. He has an audience that watches him, because they love to have their innane political views reinforced. Bill could give a shit about it too. He just repeats what people want him to say, pretends to be an authority, and collects a fat paycheck for doing it.

Politics is just another form of the same mental processes that drive the need (in most people) for Religion. It unites people together despite contrary information, gives a sense of community, gives a common enemy to hate/fear, and has a reward for faithful service. |

I thought the same thing about Bill C. He knew the stained dress was out there when he shook his finger at America and denied the event ever took place. What was he thinking?

Snake, you have to be kidding to think the FCC regulates lying on the airwaves. Even you couldn't be that naive.
But since you've started a thread on O'Reilly that does not offend you:
Like these sites or not, there's enough here to expose O'Reilly if you're interested.
He misquotes people and distorts accounts of events then presents them as fact on his show and in his books. Dave Letterman called him a liar on his show I believe as well. It was because O'Reilly had distorted what Cindy Sheehan had said. And a lot of people were disgusted with how O'Reilly treated Jeremy Glick who's father died in the Trade Center. Glick has made it public he does not want his father's death used as an excuse to invade Iraq.
Try these, pick out the lies among the liberal rants but the lies are indeed there.
Media Matters: http://mediamatters.org/items/200601040009 http://mediamatters.org/items/200601200012
Misc. sites: http://www.sweetjesusihatebilloreilly.com/ http://www.newshounds.us/2004/07/22/oreilly_lies_about_jeremy_glick_again.php http://www.commondreams.org/views04/0225-10.htm http://www.oreilly-sucks.com/ http://www.oreilly-sucks.com/billspins.htm http://www.lies.com/wp/2003/10/23/bill-oreilly-lies/
And I guess his book just had porno scenes rather than being totally pornographic. Next time you're in the book store flip through to the scene where he sneaks up on the girl in the shower with his "General at attention" and rubs her with the loofah. It's really similar to the tape the co-worker had on her voice mail from him if you had a chance to hear that.
Eeeww. Makes me disgusted thinking about him.
Well, since I was duped by a web page that is meant to deceive, I'll leave this on as a counterpoint. That's what I get for being in a hurry and that's what we all get from a right wing fringe that thinks nothing of deceit. And of course, O'Reilly himself has a page on his dear friend, Franken: http://www.lyingliar.com/oreilly.htm
Here is an interview with Al on the subject, which I hope is true and not more faked pages as I will have to take more time on this later tonite or tomorrow.
Al is a liberal but he is very careful about supporting his claims with evidence and facts that can be checked. If he does make a mistake he will indeed correct himself on air on his show.
I even left the link to the site that dishonestly claims to be Al's official web site.
But a number of comments you have made about not reading anything that contradicts your already held point of view shows how extremely affected you are by an all to common behavior pattern that most of us probably exhibit to a very small degree ourselves.
People Believe a 'Fact' That Fits Their Views Even if It's Clearly False February 4, 2005***
quote: "People build mental models," explains Stephan Lewandowsky, a psychology professor at the University of Western Australia, Crawley, who led the study that will be published in Psychological Science. "By the time they receive a retraction, the original misinformation has already become an integral part of that mental model, or world view, and disregarding it would leave the world view a shambles." Therefore, he and his colleagues conclude in their paper, "People continue to rely on misinformation even if they demonstrably remember and understand a subsequent retraction."
The above is from a Wall St Journal report, which I believe was in other papers as well. The study apparently is still to be published. This is one of many such studies.

One more behavior of O'Reilly's I forgot to add was that of expressing a bit of "ideas of grandeur". For example he has said more than once people should be afraid of the power he has. He actually thinks he instituted a boycott of French products that has affected their economy.
I still laugh thinking about that one.
Of course back to the lying, he made up a journal that didn't exist and quoted from it to prove he had impacted the French economy.
Hahahahahahahahahahahah....... |

Looks like Billy O has lost it completely O'Reilly threatened radio show caller with "Fox security" for mentioning Olbermann's namequote: CALLER: I like to listen to you during the day, I think Keith Olbermann's show --
O'REILLY: There ya go, Mike is -- he's a gone guy. You know, we have his -- we have your phone numbers, by the way. So, if you're listening, Mike, we have your phone number, and we're going to turn it over to Fox security, and you'll be getting a little visit.
HILL: Maybe Mike is from the mothership.
O'REILLY: No, Maybe Mike is going to get into big trouble, because we're not going to play around. When you call us, ladies and gentleman, just so you know, we do have your phone number, and if you say anything untoward, obscene, or anything like that, Fox security then will contact your local authorities, and you will be held accountable. Fair?

Bill O'Reilly's core audience are the same, mindless dittoheads that follow that fat motormouth of a junkie, Limbaugh like he was putting forth pearls of ambrosia instead of a gonorrheal drip. To everyone else, he is either irrelevant, or mildly humorous and irrelevant.
O'Reilly has time and again shown that he is a buffoon and a gasbag who talks a good fight. I read an article this morning that had the call-in number for his show, and foolishly didn't save it. It's an 877 # and the idea was to call it between 2 and 4 pm on week days and just speak Obermann's name. It is supposed to make him even crazier when his call-screeners tell him about it, and it would probably work.
Incidentally, Fox Security has no authority whatsoever beyond Fox property. They too, can be told to bugger off and don't come back.

The latest Al Frankin recording playback of O'Reilly was of Bill threatening to send Fox new's security team to some caller's door. Bill was spouting that they had the caller's number and he shouldn't be surprised if he gets a knock on his door. O'Reilly is a nut case. |

Nah, he's just a windbag with delusions of competence.
I'd love it if he were to send Fox thugs to my door. I'd have them busted and charged with criminal trespass and communicating a threat before they reached the top step. Then I'd sue O'Reilly. And if he were to send the local authorities, which would be the Sheriff's Dept., well, heh, I'm acquainted with most of that department and they think I'm one of the 'good guys.' I also know a very good, highly liberal lawyer whose firm would love to sink their fangs into O'Reilly's figurative but still putrescent flesh, and pocketbook, with a piece of Fox thrown in. And those options are the same for everyone; me, thee, and KEITH OBERMANN.
So, his threat is a hollow one at best. Call him on it and he'll back down faster than Dick Cheney from military service.
Mere wind, that's all he has.
