I have the utmost repect for science and lean more in that direction but I also believe that science has a lot to learn and discover. I'm glad to see that I don't have to fight for my beliefs on this network. I've grown weary of arguing with young pie/guy in the sky fundies who's only belief is "jesus is my lord and savior" or " jesus will return and take me to heaven". It seems as though everything I said was considered "hate speech" to them. I'm one who likes to learn about different philosophy's that actually make sense. From what I've seen this is probably that place.
Geo berri took the words out of my mouth I can't remeber a time that our opinions were anything but taken as hate nor were we ever asked anything by the fundies , the time i commented on that a fundie regular told me I was a woman and quite frankly she didn't have respect for womens opinions. Every day the small group of NB's that were there banded togehter and looked out for each other...I too am pleased so far Ican tell I'm actually being heard and regardless of my opinion its considered viable. This lady looked out for me alot maybe now we can just post in peace huh Geo??? Not to bring our drama here just so you know us a bit....Namaste Sheri |

Great minds do indeed think alike..... Ya beat me to it.
I myself, am delighted to have the Berri Bunch here. We get many kinds, from brain-dead neo-cons to salty, old curmudgeons, to raving lunatics, and they are a breath of fresh air amongst the swamp gas.

Though I have met some rather intelligent and well read christians, my Father-in-Law and others. I do not disagree with your point.
I suspect that acceptance of the bible (koran, etc.) as the word of god and adherence to its tenets actually prevents many people from reaching their full potential. These religious text do not encourage progressive thinking, much less thinking outside the book. I also do a lot of head shaking (and letters to the editor) when I hear someone, in the public eye, speak with authority and confidence on topics they clearly know nothing about. For many knowing the "Truth" eliminates the need to understand the facts. |

I have met many religious people who also happen to be smart. We may not see eye to eye on the religion thing, but hey, that happens. I have also met atheists, and other brands of NB's who are as dumb as a stump. As a rule, at least for myself, I try to see the individual. There are a lot of reasons why a person may choose to be religious, including the possibility that we are predisposed to such beliefs and all that goes with it for natural reasons that we don't fully understand yet.
I know how frustrating it can be to deal with religious fundamentalist thinking. Dealing with that is a chore that must be done for the sake of the advancement of science and, well, a whole lot of other things that can be as basic as protecting our freedoms and our security.
That said, most religious people are not fundamentalists. In my view we should avoid lumping and judgments about intelligence based on a persons religious beliefs, simply because they have them.
Skepticism is not a club where we get to slap each other on the back and bask in our own obviously superior intelligence. And it is not a club that does not allow religious people in. Again, we don't have to see eye to eye with everyone on everything to fight for a more, generally rational world.

I might be from the same Berri patch but "zandore berri" does not sound right. |

Oh, good! Sheri Berri must be very charismatic, then. (I will restrain my anti-charismatic tendencies.)
The berry bunch appearing had, to me, something of the effect of sitting on a bench in the park, then noticing a smiling group of people walk up, all in identical uniforms. Not frightening in itself, but it definitely gets your attention. ; )

Thankyou you guys that is so nice, Zannie is definitly part of the berri bunch so is Shambala he felt the same it wouldn't of sounded right. Geo is our wisest berri, she is an inspiration to us girls we have learned much from her, bacca is the strength of our berris she asks the best questions and always takes a stand for herself and us, Geri is a sweetie she keeps us laughing and reminds us lighten up with a good laugh and she is the only religious one (sort of in our group she is respectful and is open minded, Zannie is the bible link god for lack of a better word he is a man of few words but profound he makes an impact no matter what he says. Shambala is berri brilliant and has a genius mind who is a great humanitarian and really lives a life that is a example for anyone maybe he will share his story its a great one very insoirational, then there's me Sheri I think I see a little of my berriness in all the other berri's we have become the dearest of freinds at UM and have stuck by and with each other and have lasted the longest.Tell us about you guys ..... namaste sheri |

There's an "introduce yourself" thread here.
Some of the "berries" have already posted there, as have many other SFN folk, it might be a good resource for this sort of thing all round. |
