I have neither said nor implied such any such thing.
I don't think you did, why do you ask?

How much did you pay to fill your gas tank the last time...?
I don't know I don't pay for it and don't use it much. (my partner does complain when he buys it but he's American now). I have to be very honest and say I wish gas was 50 cents again but I don't think that's going to happen. Just like lettus is not 25 cents now. That's the reason I don't buy it anymore, since for over 20 years. I do drive sometimes but I conserve gas. Whatever I would spend on gas I'd pass the cost on to my customers. I blame all those moron Americans for buying those big 'truck like' cars with 4 wheel drive and only dirve in the city with only one person, the driver, inside. And she's always on the phone holding up traffic. Those damn things clog up the streets. Supply and demand. If people don't want to pay so much, get a smaller car, ride a bike, demand other forms of transportation. There are things one can do besides complain about the price of gas. I used to ride my bike to work and no it wasn't the kind with a motor, that was back when gas was being rationed. But I'd been riding long before that anyway. Gas has been less expensive for a long time in the USA than in many other parts of the world. Americans are selfish, they waste too much and expect too much. Perhaps if they looked at their life styles and see how to change that, they'd have less to complain about.
Ah, I see that we are in at least partial agreement.
I am physically incapable of dealing with a bicycle and use a motorcycle whenever practical, and my frame is up to it. And my truck is a 4X4. As I live out in the sticks, I require it. If I get stuck in the mud or snow, I can't dig out.
It is entirely true that we have paid less for gasoline than most of the rest of the world. But with a few exceptions, we are required to travel farther in our daily business, so, if it might not quite even out, in most cases it comes close. If I lived in the city, I'd not bother to own a car. If I needed one for some project or other, I'd rent it and let someone else worry about it's maintenance, insurance, and the rest of the hassle.
But, I'm a long way from town, so wheels are pretty much critical. And, as I'm on a pretty lean, fixed income, I feel the bite more than most.
My bitch is that Big Oil, et al., is ruthlessly taking advantage of the situation, shamelessly abetted by our venial administration and Congress. And the longer the Iraq insanity goes on, the richer and more grasping they will become, unless regulated. Thus, I look for Iraqnam to continue to drain our resources, not to mention the lives of our service personell, for a very long time...

Filthy, you are an exception, and I knew that. You ARE the kind of person that is entitled to have a heavy duty vehicle. But if you lived in Los Angeles you'd understand the waste. I think there's more of the selfish people than the ones like you who actually need that transportation. They are the ones who make it bad for everyone else. If taxes weren't so high people could afford to live closer to their work. Do you know that a lot of people in California drive 2 hours one way to work, so they can afford to live in a decently priced house and better neighborhood? It's not the price of oil that's as big a problem as crime and drugs and broken families and poor education. Maybe if the US government stopped wasting our tax money in other places like paying farmers NOT to grow certain crops and many other money draining 'essential' we could fix the problems that need takeing care of and we wouldn't have to complain about the price of a lot of things. My solution: Round up all the little scum sucking home grown terrorist who graffiti up the streets and go around shooting people.... Kill them. There, that's 1/2 the problem solved right there. We'd have loads of money left from that. The cleaning up the walls we don't have to do anymore, the police we don't have to work over time, the long drive times for people who move because of the fear. See how nice that all works. Fix the situations, don't complain about them. Write to your congressman, tell him to stop sending money. Tell him we dont' want to pay farmers money they don't earn. I bet you can find a lot more to tell him what to fix, besides the price of oil. Maybe you live in a nice little place, far from the worry of a big city and you don't pay a lot of tax but I don't see how this couldn't help everyone in the country to solve as many problems as possible. It will trickle down to everyone. Even if the cost of oil is a problem, please look at the big picture. |
