This may explain sone of the conflicting resarch on the health benifts and harmful effects of caffeine. A gene results in a large difference in how fast caffeine is metabolized. Slow metabolizers have adverse effects at much lower consumption levels.

If anyone reads anything about how one might tell if you metabolize fast or slow without a DNA analysis, I'd like to know. I'm one of those people who developed multifocal premature beats with caffeine a few years ago and had to cut way back. But they haven't said if that's a symptom of a slow metabolizer in any of the news reports. I only drink one or two cups a day but would love to drink more.

And, BTW, chocolate is always mentioned but chocolate we normally consume has a fraction of the caffeine in coffee. It is nothing to bother worrying about. A candy bar has about 8 mg of caffeine compared to ~150 mg in a cup of coffee.
