I just got this in my mail from our local skeptics club. I am PISSED OFF!!! The cretinists have sunk to a new low. I couldn't even finish reading it.

Whoever wrote that must have brown eyes. You can take a guess as to why....
The thing about America being at war with religious fanatics obviously went a few hundred miles over the authors head.

WAAAAAAY over his head!
What I wonder, does this turkey smoke? I started to wish that he'd share some of it with me, but on second thought, well, I like to think.

What an unbeleivable buch of tripe, I wouldn't ask what is this guy smoking, more like what pills he is taking.
It frightening, it really is.

Well, should we expect any different from ICR? Their rhetoric has always included references to war and battle, and they are not particularly worried about the truth, or right or wrong. Should we expect sensitivity from those that believe that the ends justify the means, as long as they have the crutch of God to absolve their consciences? To me, this latest tract from ICR is showing their growing desperation in the light of the mounting evidence supplied by the scientific method.
Plus, I'm still trying to find a member of the Church of Darwin. I haven't met one, yet, but I'm still looking.....

Members of the ICR are to be pitied. To go throughout one's life with the kind of mindlessness such as theirs is a severe punishment by itself. I really feel sorry for them. Such absence of intelligent thought is akin to a mental and/or emotional illness -- a kind of degeneration. To me, very, very sad, meaningless lives...

Y'know, Ijbrs, I hadn't thought of it that way. I think you're right.
But they're so militant sometimes! Makes 'pity' a tough feeling to hang on to.
Funny, isn't it, that so-called 'secular humanists' are far more tolorent and generous than all too many fundelmentalist Christians who's creed is reputedly 'love'.
Or maybe that's just people being themselves. All creatures are an evolutionary dead end, sooner or later. At the rate we're going, our dead end might be sooner.
Luck,

I find "pity" pretty tough. Can we bypass pity and go straight for contempt? I have a friend who's a huge bigfoot believer. No amount of logical argument can sway him. However, he's not trying to get laws passed that state that I have to believe the same way he does. He's not trying to get bigfoot ecology taught in public school biology class. Him, I pity. Lisa

These people do not deserver pity. They are, in effect, trying to equate the teaching of Darwinian evolution with terrorism. The only appropriate response to such a twisted tactic is to despise the sick small minded jerks.

Nah. We need to put an end to their nonsense, which can and does cause real harm to our society as a whole. Pity the weak, not the willfully stupid.

Punishment is something that the punished are conscious of. These nutwads think they're right, and are leading correct and righteous lives, and are doing the "Lord's Work™". There's nothing akin to punishment going on here, except to the rational minded having to listen to their crap.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. Stop feeling sorry for these morons and do something about it. They certainly don't feel sorry for you. I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted you dead.

Ah, but I can pity and loath at the same time. I truely pity someone with such a tiny, closed mind that he / she can't see the beauty in the diversity of the world, indeed the universe.
But, given the opportunity, I would cheerfully break out the .357 and put a hand-loaded, 158 grain chunk of molded wheel weights or copper-jacketed lead through Osama's pathetic gourd.
But, I wouldn't shoot Falwell. He's pitiable and loathsome, but good for too many laughs.
If this makes me a part of the problem, so be it. Thus I shall remain.

Um, no, not shooting someone doesn't make you "part of the problem".
These people and their nonsensical ideas need to be fought (not shot). It does no good to sit around feeling superior and claiming "compassion" for these kooks, as if this is some admirable trait.
