A while ago I was looking at a Star Trek The Next Generation episode in which the android Data was reading some of his poetry. The "Ode to Spot" got stuck. Though it is very much "Data", complex vocabulary, I still think it's a brilliant poem.

quote:
Felis Cattus, is your taxonomic nomenclature,
an endothermic quadruped carnivorous by nature?
Your visual, olfactory and auditory senses
contribute to your hunting skills, and natural defenses.

Off to a slow and dry start, the poem pick up pace and the three other verses are really good.

Dr. Mabuse - "When the going gets tough, the tough get Duct-tape..."

"Equivocation is not just a job, for a creationist it's a way of life..." Dr. Mabuse

It is a good poem. I recall a fellow student in music school who was also impressed with an early Star Trek episode (1960s) where Kirk and Spock discover a manuscript of an unknown waltz by Johannes Brahms.

He transcribed the waltz from a tape of the show and played it at a recital. We were impressed by the harmonic changes and melodic lines which were actually quite Brahmsian. The episode's composer captured the Brahms style very well.

Diversity, independence, innovation and imagination are progressive concepts ultimately alien to the conservative mind.
