IT ONLY SAYS *THAT* YEAR

But when did the failures actually occur?
Mars Climate Orbiter was lost in Stepember 1999 when the spacecraft broke apart under aerodynamic loads far deeper in the Martian atmosphere than it was supposed to be for aerobraking. However, the system engineering and management failures (mismatched units, insufficient communication between spacecraft contractor and JPL astrogation team, failure to speak up about inconsistencies, etc.) were built into the program years from the start.
Mars Polar Lander was lost in December 1999 when a shock signal generated during landing gear deployment was interpreted as a landing shock, causing the engine to shut down and letting the spacecraft simply drop a few dozen meters to the surface. Again, the system engineering failures were built into the system with the budget and time pressures causing insufficient analysis and testing, which would have caught the problem generated by the lack of a simple debouncing circuit.
sts60 is an expert in this field. I'd trust his unsourced assertions much more than yours. (Although, unlike you, sts60 would be quite content to provide sources if asked.)
Heck, drmabus himself (in his 4/24 post at 20:48, page 10 of the thread) posted a link to the NASA page summarizing the attempts to explore the Red Planet: http://history.nasa.gov/marschro.htm
Why he did this, I don't know, because it directly contradicts his claim. There has been bad luck both before and after 1999.
Four nations (counting Europe as one "nation" via the European Space Agency) have tried to reach Mars. The USSR/Russia has had a particularly brutal history trying to get there - kind of ironic considering they were the first to successfully land on the hellish surface of Venus. The USA has had a number of both spectacular successes (Viking 1 & 2, three rovers, Mars Global Surveyor, etc.) and excruciating failures (see above for two examples). Europe is 1 for 2 and Japan is hitless in their only at-bat so far.

Yes, the God of War will reign (by good luck) before and after 1999, according to Mike. What's that mean?quote: IT ONLY SAYS *THAT* YEAR
No, it proclaims a specific month (July). |

I know what it says. It says the seventh month of 1999. You posted that yourself over on BAUT. Why are you changing your story now? First it was the seventh month, then it was September, now it's not even a specific month?
It also says something about a "king of terror". What does that have to do with space probes about the size of a passenger automobile? Considering the embarrassing systems and managment failures leading to their losses, why shouldn't it have been "king of comedy"?
And, for that matter - how exactly is a space probe, or a planet, supposed to bring back the "king of the Mongols"? Which king? How exactly does an artificial or natural celestial object accomplish this?
Finally, I'll note that once again you have failed to address the refutation of your "before" and "after" claim. Zond 2, Mariner 8, Mars 7, Phobos 1, Mars 96, Mars Observer, Nozomi, Beagle 2. Plenty of bad luck before and after.
Your claim is not only absurd on its face and inconsistent with reality, it is not even internally consistent. |

Now you're on your fourth version of what this means. First it was September 1999, then it was the seventh month of 1999 (July), then it was the entire year 1999, now it's both July and September, with ol' Nostradamus conveniently using an abbreviation!
Why don't you take some time and come back when you can decide on one story and stick to it?
as for the *existence* of the KING OF TERROR see the D.M. 66 QUATRAIN AND INTERPRETATION
Your interpretation made no sense the first time I read it; I've already pointed out why. Why should I read it again?
Oh, and yet another failure to defend your refuted "good fortune before and after" claim duly noted. |

Well, here's another one I just realized. drmabus claimed the failure of two Mars probes in one year to be a "world historical novelty". This is patently untrue; if you look at the list he conveniently provided, you can see two failures happening in one year several times before.
It's not just the wild stretching of mystic old mumbo-jumbo to fit modern events, and not just the 20/20 (well, more like 20/500) hindsight, that's so sad. It's also the shooting oneself in the foot, repeatedly, that's kind of painful to watch. |
