I just got this e-mail from SCI-FI Channel:
quote: The SCI FI Channel is proud to announce a new reality series, and we want you -- NEED you -- to be a part of it!
AN INTERVIEW SHOW ABOUT THE PARANORMAL!
In production right now, SCI FI has an interview show like no other. Not a hoax, not a put-on, it's a real-life nightly journey to the borderland of the unexplained and the frontiers of the improbable.
Each night, our celebrity host and new guests work from YOUR questions and comments as they answer, explain and recount their fascinating experiences with the paranormal, the supernatural and other alternative realms.
HERE'S HOW *YOU* PARTICIPATE! ------------------- E-mail us your questions, comments, experiences, theories or explanations -- the more specific the better! -- related to any of the topics below. We'll use selected ones during each episode, and we may even invite you to phone-in during taping!
Send your e-mails to outthere@www.scifi.com. Make sure to put your topic in the subject line. If we plan to use your e-mail, or to phone you to participate live, one of the producers of the series will follow up. IT'S AS SIMPLE AS THAT!
Here's a list of topics that may be featured during our December 2001 and January 2002 tapings:
EXTRATERRESTRIALS & OUTER SPACE * Roswell, Area 51 & Government Cover-Ups * Alien Technology * Sightings, Abductions & Alien Encounters * Alien Archeology * Lost & Hidden Planets * The Apollo Moon Landing "Hoax"
THE SPIRITUAL WORLD & THE AFTERLIFE * Angels & Demonic Possession * Miracles & the Power of Prayer * Poltergeists, Hauntings & Ghostbusters * Nature Spirits & Fairies
SEERS & SECRETS OF THE UNIVERSE * Visions & Prophecies * Astrology * The Bible Code * Shared Dreams
THE OCCULT * Witchcraft, Spells & Hexes * Werewolves & Zombies * Paganism, Santeria & Voodoo * Nazis & the Occult
CRYPTOZOOLOGY * Bigfoot, Yeti, & the Chupacabra * Sea Monsters & Living Dinosaurs * Genetic Throwbacks & Hybrid "Monsters"
UNTAPPED HUMAN POTENTIAL * Psychic Spies, Psychic Surgery & Animal Psychics * Mediums, Out-of-Body Experiences & Remote Viewing * Levitation, Telekinesis & ESP * Spontaneous Human Combustion * Super Intelligence
NEW, SECRET & LOST TECHNOLOGY * Anti-Gravity & Weather Control * The Philadelphia Experiment, the Montauk Project & Nikola Tesla * Free-Energy Devices * Mind Control * The Raelians & Cloning * Suspended Animation * Time Travel & Parallel Universes

I don't know about you, but I just cannot wait til they do a show on the Apollo Moon Landing "Hoax."

I will e-mail them.
I will ask them to include a skeptical viewpoint on all subjects. Not just a couple words from a token skeptic, but equal time. Since every one of these subjects has been either debunked or have more worldly explanations than the ones they are bound to be promoting, I will tell them that I will not watch the series if their plan is to not have a balanced presentation. I will also suggest that including the skeptical view will make for a much more entertaining and thought provoking show.
This from CSICOP.
quote: Here is a chance for you to help the folks at the Sci-Fi Channel (you know the ones who bring you John Edward talking to the dead). They have a new show on the paranormal and are asking for help. I wrote them and told them that CSICOP would be pleased to be of service. Perhaps you'd like to write to them (outthere@www.scifi.com) and ask that they be sure to include skeptics as well.

Lets show CSICOP some support by endorsing their request with e-mails to the SCI FI channel.

I was just going over the letter again, and I was wondering, who or what in the heck are the Raelians? I'd heard of everything else, in most cases having either read about them or watched a show on them, but I'd only heard of the Raelians just briefly.

The Raelians: We [humankind] are descended from aliens [the Raelians]. We should clone ourselves because this is what the Raelians want us to do to be like them.
Very bizarre cult thing here.

I find it somewhat scary that people actually believe this stuff. Guess the real world isn't exciting enough. Lisa

AN INTERVIEW SHOW ABOUT THE PARANORMAL!
Just one question: how can a program simultaneously be a "reality series" and deal with the paranormal? Seems to me that dwelling on the paranormal means that 'reality' is going to be left behind.

How much you wanna bet that John Edwards' show has gotten great ratings even though it's been tossed around more times than Star Trek: TOS was on NBC and SCI-FI Channel wants something close to being a reality show?

I'm a pretty big Trekkie. But what is Star Trek: TOS?

You know, the one with Kirk, Spock and McCoy.

You have to admire people like him, though. Their minds are so quick (and with a stright face too). It's like a criminal, who puts so much effort into doing something bad when he could easily use the same brain power to get further ahead legaly.

OK, thanks James. Usually, most I know just call it Star Trek.

Well, it's called that now because we have The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager; all with Star Trek in the titles. Helps to tell them apart.

Let me explain. You have Star Trek, then Next Gen, then DS9, then Voyager. Now we have Enterprise. So, Star Trek retains full rights to being just Star Trek. It's a minor thing, but...it's Star Trek.
