Related to this thread (and inspired by this one), I wonder what your avatars are, and why you chose them.
Mine, for instance, is the emblem for the Inter Milan soccer, er, football club. I registered here right when I came back from a semester in Italy, and was much into following the European game. Inter was the club I adopted while I was there, and figured I'd use the logo for my avatar.
There are some interesting ones out there I've seen, though. So if you'd like to share, this is the place!

Me, I just use a pic of Dick Cheney, my own personal hero.

My avatar was snatched from some other place. I liked it for several reasons. First, I hated the dancing baby screen-saver, and I never liked Ally McBeal Tv-series. So when I saw this baby heretically bastardised into a martial arts kicking, I just loved it. I used to train Judo, Ju-jutsu, and Tai Chi, so there is a martial arts connection to me. Because of this background I do have extra appreciation of martial arts on the silver scree when performance is well rehearsed.
In my early days on Skeptic Friends Network I was also more in-the-face, going-for-the-throat kind of person. I'd like to believe that I have mellowed down a bit since then, and now consider arguments more carefully. However, depending on my mood, I swing from the mellow agnostic via atheist to anti-theist on occasion when I can spew forth some vitriol. It's not for nought that my title has "Skeptic Friend" with two missing letters.
In light of this, my avatar seems appropriate. I have been thinking about changing it, but somehow I haven't found anything that is better than I already have. The pic of me and my bike on the race track is too boring.

Mine is an hybrid of a Gaboon Viper and a Rhinoceros Viper, giving it the mouthfull of a Latin name of: Bitis gabonica rhinoceros X B. nasicornis, and try saying that three times fast. B. nasiicornis is the Rhino parent (male). The pic is an old one. Until just a few months ago, this very interesting snake was a longtime, resident at Casa Filth, starting from when he was bait size. He is now with a researcher who is doing a serious Bitis program.
I'm thinking of changing avatars, as I no longer have the snake.

Mine is a painting by Alex Grey: more can be found at www.alexgrey.com/
FWIW, I'm not into all the mystical philosophy/religion aspects (I hope that's obvious); I just think his work is really really good. |

For those who don't know (and apparently, some of you don't), my avatar is me less than a day old. One person said that it looks like I'm sitting on a wasp.
For those who may want a personal avatar on the SFN, there's a link in your profile page for submitting one. |

Mine is a re-working of the output of some code I wrote to generate spectra that were supposedly more or less "realistic" when viewed on a computer monitor. The idea being you could render pixels at a colour corresponding to an actual wavelength.
I originally created the avatar for use on a another site (gameknot, for anyone that's interested in chess, I'm zaph BTW).
I feel it would be unfair to inflict my actual likeness onto an unwary SFN membership. Besides, a colourful avatar is probably more memorable and unique than my actual appearance.

My avatar:

Already mentioned this in the introduce yourself thread, but if'n you're gonna create a special thread for avatars, far be it from me not to take the opportunity to promote a band I'ver taken a liking to. |
